Later, his lawyer said the former dictator called on Iraqis to reject sectarian violence and refrain from revenge against U.S. forces.

Unless it was Saddam doing what Saddam does best - looking out for himself and trying to save his own hide.

What will you give me for this rotten thing I have here the george.. lol...
I agree.. No way he said that.. come on now.. lol..

And for those who are now worried that all this has done is made the bad guys mad and will make them kill more.. uh well.. Ofcourse it will.. they are low life scum terrorists. They kill weather the have a reason to back or not. The alternative was to what, not try him at all? And YES this was the IRaqi court and goverment that tried this case.. NOT the US.. The US captured Saddam and made the trial possible in that sence sure.. But they tried him. and no one else should have. Just has been served.

It seems it'll take a while before Saddam will be really hanged. First of all, there will be an appeal, because Saddam's lawyers asked for this. His team of lawyers will be expanded with some lawyers from western countries. Secondly, Saddam will also be persecuted for attacking the Kurdish village of Halabya with chemical weapons in 1988.

It was stated yesterday by the Iraqi courts that if the appeal process fails then he will be executed within 30 days of that whether or not the other trial is complete.

I had to delete my reply when I saw this....BUT...question remains how long the appeals process will drag on. I know how it is in this country. Half the time the parties involved die of natural causes waiting for Appelate Court, while the lawyers on retention keep raking in more money.

My guess is this scum will still be ranting and raving 10 years from now.

They stated that he would probably be executed by this coming summer, if all his appeals fail. There the appeals process is nothing like it is here in the US, according to the courts there. This was during a live broadcast with a question and answer period yesterday morning early.

My only problem with this entire ordeal, is that he will become a martyr and the possibility of someone rising to power who is far worse than he. As we (trying to stay far away from politics) can see our form of democracy doesn't work for Iraq. It has been a nation that religion has controlled for thousands of years, and you cant erase that in a couple of years, if ever.

Will the world be a better place without Saddam? Probably. But now the entire Middle East is a boiling pot in which we are up to our waist.
