Pineapple Express-Western WA under a state of emergency

#1 Postby R-Dub » Tue Nov 07, 2006 1:38 am

Here in the Northwest we are in the middle of a historic flood. State of Emergency has been declared for most all of western Washington counties. This Pinapple Express is going down in history as one of the biggest in recorded history. One person has died when his truck slipped off a muddy bank and into one of the rivers. The entire town of Snoqualmie is being evacuated....UNHEARD OF!! And a week from now we could be talking snow in the lowlands as the snow level will go from 11,000FT now to 500-1,000FT by next Monday! Not a typical El Nino at least so far here in the NW.

Here is a snipit of the NWS Seattle discussion

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
300 PM PST MON NOV 6 2006

THIS HAS BECOME A MAJOR EVENT WITH RECORD FLOODING FORECAST ON SEVERAL RIVERS... INCLUDING THE SKAGIT...STILLAGUAMISH...AND SKYKOMISH. THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL HOURS TO CREST ON THESE RIVERS SO PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE ACTION NOW TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER THE LAST 24 HOURS IN THE MOUNTAINS ARE 5 TO 8 INCHES. IF YOU INCLUDE THE FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY SYSTEM...WHICH PRIMED THE PUMP FOR THIS HISTORIC FLOOD...RAINFALL AMOUNTS SO FAR ARE 10-12 INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS. EASILY EXPECT ANOTHER 4-6 INCHES BY 18Z TUE. LOWLAND STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS ARE GOING TO BE 5-8 INCHES WHICH HAS SPAWNED AN URBAN/SMALL STREAM FLOOD WARNING. HAVE HEARD NUMEROUS REPORTS OF LOCAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH ROAD FLOODING.

.LONG TERM...HAVE NOT HAD AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF TIME TO LOOK AT THE EXTENDED. BUT IT APPEARS ANOTHER SYSTEM MOVES INTO WASHINGTON THURSDAY NIGHT...WITH PRECIPITATION LIKELY AT TIMES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. SNOW LEVELS DROP WAY DOWN...1000 FEET OR SO BY MONDAY. COOL AND SNOWY RATHER THAN WARM AND FLOODY. BURKE

according to JB this is not part of the pineapple connection because the jet is too far north and is not comming from the "pineapple" regions.

None the less, this is a very extreme situation, and I hope in the end that most people come out alright! let's hope all this flooding across different areas of the country comes to an end soon!

Was JB looking at the same satellite I was? It's STJ driven and the plume extended down into the Tropical Latitudes yesterday.
