i assume this man passed whatever exam he was given to get a licence
so what if a 5 year old somehow got behind the wheel and caused something like that...you'd throw him in jail for life? I wouldn't think so. Like gtalum said this was an accident, abeit an unfortunate one and not criminal activity.

Vehicular manslaughter, a crime of negligence. Like the CHP officer involved, I don't think that charges should even have been filed.
A decent attorney would have gotten him off completely. No crime was committed.

he was CONVICTED of 10 FELONY counts of vehicular homicide. i think those are crimes.
again i ask, does anyone know the age at which all crimes can be excused?
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson made it clear that Weller deserved a harsh prison sentence after being convicted on 10 felony counts of vehicular manslaughter. But Johnson said that little would be served in sending the frail elderly man to jail.

I'm not trying to be discriminatory... but there should be a elderly driving test done every year.... NOT when they renew their licenses (every 5 years or so)... In some instances.... many elderly drivers do not understand the rules of the road. My step-grandfather has dimensia right now.... we have good days and bad days... he's still driving... that's what I'm scared over.

It was AN ACCIDENT!! Of course the families need to be prayed for.

Well I agree to some extent. We can't discriminate against all elderly drivers. I have seen some of them drive better than some of the idiots on the road. My parents are very defensive drivers and have even watched out for me. Those with dimentia and alzheimers do not need to be behind the wheel. Same is said for drunk drivers. We can't stop them from driving so how can we stop elderly from driving? The number one killer is drunk driving, not elderly driving.

I do not appreciate some in this thread and how they describe the elderly like 'old geezers" and such. It is disrespectful as heck!
rainstorm, if there is something controversial you are going to post it. This story is about a week old.
