Anniversary of JFK assasination=Where were you?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:23 am

Today 22 of November is the anniversary of the assasination of John F.Kennedy,a dark day in 1963 not only in the U.S but around the world.I was attending school in New York City at Kindergarden when the news came about the death of the president, and after the information came, clases were suspended.I know that the majority of the members were born after that year but those who were born by 1963 can reply about where were you question.

In the first grade. We got out early. ALL the teachers were crying (sobbing!!).

Very memorable event, even at 5 years old....

Wasn't born yet.

But it's also the anniversary of my dad's death. The date was the 21st. But in '73, the 21st fell as the day before Thanksgiving. So, almost every year, my mom would grieve twice -- once on the actual date and once on the day.

And now my best friend is traveling today to go to Dallas. I'm praying she and everyone else who travels today has a safe flight or drive to their destinations and a safe trip back,.

Not born yet.

As I got older though, I was educated on his Presidency/legacy. I have written several book reports on him throughout my school years. He is one President that has my utmost respect. RIP President Kennedy.

I was 8 and in grade school. Our parish Pastor broke the tragic news over the intercom, announcing that Pres. Kennedy had been shot. School was immediately dismissed, we were instructed to go straight home and of course pray.

Our TV was on around the clock for 4 consecutive days. I was watching live coverage when Jack Ruby shot Oswald and when John John saluted the casket.

My mom cried for days and weeks to come. Everyone did. I will never forget those tragic days. I immediately compared 9/11 to when Pres. Kennedy was assassinated. Both tragic events brought this nation to its knees and united us. In a split second. We were one nation - deeply sad.

I wasnt born yet either.... I came along in Jan. of 76.... Saw the movie though, the one with Kevin Costner, JFK.... Absolutely amazing! (i know its an old movie) to add a little extra to this topic... My grandmother in law lived up in Dallas at the time of the shooting and her husband,at the time, was a cop for Dallas... Anyways, she was a party girl and hung out at the local bars often. she has told severeal sotries about this, and i am always amazed, she knew Lee Harvey Oswald! She used to go to the bar that he owned or something like that, I cant remember if she said he owned a bar... But for years she and her hubby would go drink with him at the bar! She said you would have never guessed he was capable of doing something like that. She was amazed, she is prolly 71 years old now, but she still tells her "stories" .. She is great peice of history.... !

Like Miss Mary, I was 8 years old, in the third grade. The teacher got a phone call from the office, left the classroom (for a long time!), and came back in tears. She told us what happened, but I don't remember whether school closed after that or not. My mother was annoyed because the coverage was on all three networks, and she missed seeing her soap operas.

My father and sister saw the shooting of Oswald by Jack Ruby, live, on a small black-and-white TV.

The assasination was a turning point for me, in that it led to a greater awareness of the world outside my family and our little hometown. My parents' generation remembers where they were when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Mine remembers the Kennedy assasination. My son's generation has the 9/11 attacks, seen over and over on big TVs in vivid color. :(

I was barely 5, but can remember huddling around the black and white fuzzy TV. Just a tad too young to understand what was going on except that Mom and Dad just sat there and stared.

I was not even born that time. I knew of it when I was a young kid. JFK Assassination was the biggest news event at the time it happened one of the biggest in the 20th century. It is up there with the Titanic disaster, Pearl Harbor, Challenger disaster, and 9/11. All networks at the time had constant coverage without any commercial interruptions from assassination to funeral. It was the longest until 9/11.

I was in second grade class room watching on a TV. My teacher had a TV that she brought in to the class room for us to see the President on TV. I remember seeing Kennedy's head fall forward and then back as a piece of his skull went flying off the back of the limo. I remember it as clearly as if it had happened yesterday.
