Woman kicked off airline for breast feeding

Mine, she was asked to cover up a bit and refused so she should have been removed and isn't 22 months a bit too old to be breast feeding. Everyone that I know has told me that between 12 and 16 months, children are generally drinking froma childs cup with that special top.

As for age, some studies have shown a benefit to breastfeeding to 24 months.

Regardless, people need to quit worrying about seeing a breast. God forbid!
There are some people who try to do it to get attention, and that's ridiculous. But as long as she's not just sitting around with her top off, I don't see a problem with it.

My military hop to Guam had two infants onboard... Both mothers were breast feeding during the 8 hour flight. I see nothing wrong with that... as long as it is discrete.

Age is up to a mother, but I think 22mths. is a bit old. Not like she had to feed him being that old, she could have gave him some goldfish and juice or something. Unlike a newborn who eats at least every two hours and thats all they eat. But that isn't the issue here. I think a woman should be able to nurse anywhere, and anytime. If she is discrete about it, it shouldn't offend anyone.

Very strange, I really don't see the problem with a woman breastfeeding her child.

Also very strange that it is possible to remove people from the plane if they 'annoy' someone else. Does that mean smelly people, snoring people and people that just don't stop talking to you on the plane can also be removed?

Hmmm....interesting!

Years ago (29 to be exact!) I breast-fed my infant daughter while sitting in the middle seat on a plane! A businessman was on my right....a military man on my left. Neither knew what I was doing....they thought I was just cuddling her. During this same trip to Ca., I nursed her while in the Rose Bowl Parade bleachers! Nobody was aware except her and I. Nursing can be done so discreetly....if that's what the Mother wants....and thirthy years ago, it was less common to nurse one's baby.

What is not being mentioned here is how this absolutely helps an infants ears while in flight. Haven't we all been on a flight with a crying baby? The uniformed fella suggested I give her a bottle to help her ears...and was surprised she was quiet...little did he know!!......p

I sure agree there are too many Moms who seem to like to shock with their maternal instincts....I'm always a little embarassed for them when I see arrogant public displays of such a personal relationship between infant and Mother.

I remember some Holidays when family was gathered together....I wasn't the only one with an infant. When those babes started those "hungry" cries.....my Mom would say...."Go give that kid a bust in the mouth!"......p

With all do respect I have to say that breastfeeding is a personal choice that happens with both the mother and the child. Weaning a child is a mutual decision between the mother and child as well. I know people who have breastfed for 2 weeks, 6 mos, 1 year all the way up to 5 years. I personally have breastfed all three of my kids to the age of 3. Not 24 / 7 by that age it is simply to go to sleep, or first thing in the morning but perhaps she was breastfeeding the child at that time because they were on an airplane going to take off and children cannot clear there ears like we can so pediatritians recommend that we either bottle or breastfeed a small child to clear the ears otherwise they could have severe pain from the pressure, or perhaps she wanted the child to calm down and take a nap. Regardless, it's a personal choice one that should be respected who are we to judge. Just my 2 cents.

I disagree with the "nurse-in" protest. There's a right way and a wrong way to go about things. My opinion is that these women used their innocent babies and shoved the "breast feeding in public" controversy back several steps.

If these women want to breastfeed their child in public they should do so with some discretion with respect for those around them. If the breastfeeding women show respect i believe they'll earn respect and breastfeeding in public will become much more accepted.

Yes it is her problem. You should also have respect for those around you. I don't mind someone breastfeeding around me but don't do it in such a way to draw attention to yourself.

We need to remember why women have boobs in the first place. It's for the baby and it's totally natural. I know many who have breastfed till age 3 and there is nothing wrong with that, and for those of you who say she should have been more discreet, how do you know exactly what she looked like? Is there a %cover-up while breastfeeding rule? I wouldn't want one of those itchy dirty airline blankets over my baby. Why are mothers supposed to be so "careful" when feeding their baby as to not offend you? Does a baby feeding in a natural way really bother you that much or have you never seen a boob before? I've yet to understand the problem here.

Exactly. I really don't get why people are offended by breastfeeding.
