Best Christmas Movies

#1 Postby Regit » Mon Nov 27, 2006 1:48 pm

What are everybody's favorite Christmas movies? While I generally get sick of all the commercial celebration around Christmas, I do enjoy several Christmas movies.

What would comprise the list of your favorites?

I can think of seven favorites off the top of my head:

7. Scrooged
6. The Ref
5. Love Actually
4. A Christmas Carol (1951)
3. A Christmas Story
2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

EDIT: I forgot Home Alone and Home Alone 2. Throw those in the middle somewhere. :)

You gotta have the Home Alone movies in there - 1 and 2 (not 3, I prefer M. Culkin).

My faves would be:

1. The Gathering (rarely on TV anymore)
2. It's a Wonderful Life
3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (original)
4. Rudolph
5. Frosty the Snowman
6. Home Alone
7. Home Alone 2/Lost in NYC
8. Any Little House Christmas Show
9. Any Waltons Christmas Show
10. Eight is Enough 2 hour Christmas Show with guest star Will Geer

I'm a sap for all classic TV shows when they include xmas. Same goes for fluff pieces - just random made for TV movies, with a Christmas theme.

I wish I could watch them all!

A Christmas Story
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation(I love all of them with Chevy Chase)
Home Alone and Home Alone 2(Home Alone 3 is OK but not nearly as good as the other two, Home Alone 4 sucked)
The Santa Clause(Tim Allen)
Jingle All the Way

I think that's about it. I LOVE Christmas episodes of sitcoms.

Always Remember I Love You with Patty Duke and Stephen Dorff.
Any version of a Christmas Carol, but mostly the 1951 classic.
and finally, without a doubt, the best
It's A Wonderful Life

Speaking of Dickens, I'm glad it's gonna be cold here this weekend, just in type for the Dickens on the Strand festival!

Why do they have to run them so darn EARLY?! Seems like by the time Christmas rolls around, there's nothing left. I'm just glad I have my trusty copy of A Christmas Story.

Thought I'd bump up this thread. I've yet to see one holiday related movie this season. And I need one!

Here's another, light hearted comedy that works for me everytime. Takes place over Christmas.

"While You Were Sleeping"

Shawn - gasp! I find so many SNL actors hilarious. Wil Ferrel isn't one of them though. So I do agree with you on him (this goes for Adam Sandler, so many of his movies are in so dumb to be believed category, for me anyway). But when it comes to Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Steve Martin - all they have to do is smirk or raise an eyebrown, just slightly and I'm cracking up. I love those guys.
