What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

Erm, ok, could be.

Never knew I had an American accent, since I learned to speak UK English.

I indicated already that my American accent was Inland North (which is right). I re-took the quiz with the same answers (the best I can remember) and again I am Inland North.

However, I am also very close to a Midland accent, which makes sense because a lot of my family is from Ohio. Still, I grew up in Michigan and grew up more on those kinds of roots than with my family's Ohio roots.

I also appear to be a bit Northeast, Philly, even half-Southern. I'm only a little West, and not very Boston or North Central.

And lastly, carbonated beverages most certainly are called "pop." ;)

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio."

OK, at the office, that's probably true.

But, at home, it's "How ya'll doin'?"

Here are my results:

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

Got it perfect. I'm Canadian.

Midland, according to this; but I've been told I still retain a trace of "Norwinglish" and, sometimes, Queen's English (depending on the subject and to whom I'm speaking).

I had to read that three times to deciper it. Thanks for the laugh. Where do you live? It's warm and muggy outside here in Tampa.

Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

That's kinda funny because I've never been to the west, and I've spent 99.9% of my life in the northeast, which was the accent I scored lowest on.

I got the same result. The test is flawed.

Mine came out as northeast, which considering I'm from the UK, makes a slight amount of sense.

Kind of makes sense though...as thats where the British first landed!

I know I shouldn't have really taken the test...just interested to see what it would say for a foriegner!

The graph showed much stronger in the West and the South though.

I was born and bred in Texas. :)
