There are already readings in the low 30's in Beaumont and it's only 8:45pm. BRRRR!

Now if only we could get some precipitation. ;)

Edit: hurrican19, you're in Orange, correct? You ought to go into your profile and add Orange, Tx. into your location so it will show up over there :larrow: below your name. :)

That's strange. The forecast for my area has dropped to 26-27F (from 29F earlier). Also, when I checked the forecast for your area it said "28F". May be you are looking at an old/wrong image?

OK... you know what, usually I type in my zip code, which is 77084... But evidently IAH or something is down... Thats where it usually has its location, but for some odd reason its using Hobby... Go figure, I did look at Cypress and its lowered to 28 tonight... Im not sure where to put my location, my zip pulls Houston, but I live at the meeting point of Katy, Houston, and Cypress... Houston=lower property taxes than Katy, which is right across the street!!

39F in Pearland at 9pm....I am hoping for a light freeze tonight. I have some tropical plants around the pool that I am afraid will crater w/ a hard freeze....

Funny story: this morning I had frost on my windshield getting ready for work....I thought that turning on the wipers would get the frost off so I sprayed some water on my windshield. It instantly froze so basically made the matter even worse.

lesson learned.....

a deck of clouds has briefly moved over my area tonight and steadied out my temperatures. At first I thought we may be saved, but then I saw the back edge of the clouds moving in. Looks like I will be clear again before too long allowing the cooling to once again commence.

BTW, at 9pm...

Conroe was 33F
Tomball was 35F
IAH was 39F

I noted earlier today that the dew point here in Baton Rouge was down to +8, rather low for early December. If we get another shot like this in January, watch out.

Hmmm..

Now I am beginning to wonder.

These clouds still havn't cleared and my temperature has RISEN a degree (to 36F). If these clouds don't clear soon, then we very well may end up spared from very cold air yet again.

I guess we shall see what happens..

UPDATE (9:45pm) = The clouds are actually now breaking up and moving out. Looks like the potential hard freeze is back on.

IAH, HOOKS, and CONROE have all risen 1F in the last hour (as of 9:53pm). However, now with it clearing up some, I expect these temps. to drop again with the next update.

I am down to 37, but my dewpoint his risen to 33. We'll see. My forecasted low is now 26F from the NWS. That is TOO COLD for my Majesty Palms without protection.

11pm airport temperatures:

Conroe = 32F (dewpoint - 29F)
Hooks = 34F (dewpoint - 29F)
IAH = 36F (dewpoint - 28F)
Hobby = 39F (dewpoint - 25F)

Looks like everyone is in the 30s now, and Conroe has even dipped into the freezing range. Also, looking out the window before shutting down for the night...I can already see frost forming on the surrounding rooftops! It is going to be a cold one in the morning for sure!

BTW: These airport dewpoints have actually dropped or held steady since 10pm. That is not a good sign.

I'm not in Texas, but here in SW Louisiana I'm down to 31 degrees at 11:20 p.m. and the expected low is 25 by morning. Anyone see another cold snap like this one in the next few weeks? Any prognosis on the conditions around Christmas or is it way too early? Just wondering. The hot gumbo was perfect tonight!

It's down to 30 degrees according to my thermometer and some surrounding weatherbug locations have already dipped into the 20's before midnight. Looks like we'll bottom out in the 25-26 range and probably won't rise above freezing until after 9am. Definately beats any freeze we saw last year, and I can hear the mosquitos freezing as I type! :lol:

Edit: I knew this was a very cold airmass for early December, but I didn't realize we were threatening records tonight. This is an update from the NWS Lake Charles:

ACCELERATED RADIATIONAL (OR ISOBARIC) COOLING WILL PREVAIL ACROSS
THE EASTERN HALF OF THE FORECAST AREA. BOTH ALEXANDRIA AND LAFAYETTE
MAY REACH RECORD MINIMUM TEMPERATURES NEAR DAWN. :cold:

Here are the 6am airport readings, and the # of hours each location has been at or below freezing so far:

IAH = 31F (5 hrs.)

Hooks = 29F (6 hrs.)

Hobby = 32F (2 hrs.)

Conroe = 26F (8 hrs.)

I also wouldn't be surprised to see temps. fall another degree or so by 7am.

BTW: My temperature is at 26.8F right now! Also, there is some patchy freezing fog in the area that has coated everything with frost and ice. It looks wintery for sure!

At 7am, most of the temperatures are the same, but over the last 6 hrs..the minimums reached were:

IAH = 30F (coldest since last Feb.)

Hooks = 28F

Conroe = 26F

Hobby = 32F

BTW, I am now up to 27.1F. Looks my low for this morning was about 27F (when rounded up from 26.8F). This means it was as cold as the morning a few days back. The only difference this time is the frost (which is everywhere).

My low was 31F so I got lucky, although it's apparent my Majestys' fronds got toasted.
