The Choice: Male or Female?

#1 Postby j » Tue Dec 05, 2006 11:02 am

Now this isn’t what you think, I Just couldn’t decide on a Topic Title.

This morning my work offered free 10 minute massages as part of some company wide “Wellness” program. So you go down to this office and they have three chairs set up (like you would see at the airports). There are 3 Therapists, two males, and one female. So, I am faced with the decision of picking which one I want since all were available. No big deal, right? Well inside my head, I have this thing about letting another male put his hands on me (other than a Doctor). So, I pick the woman, and believe it or not, she wasn’t a hottie like you see in the movies. Well, having had a massage before (by a woman), I can say with certainty, that she wasn’t very good. Her hands were weak, she didn’t get in deep at all. Never once did I wince in pain. To my sides, were the two men, giving great massages evidenced by whines and moans from their subjects, and the interactivity going on between them. So I ask myself: Why didn’t you pick one of those guys with the bigger hands, more muscular arms, who surely could have put a hurting on you?? Did I pay the price for my mild homophobia?

How about these:

Hair Dresser – your choice: Male or Female? (Me – I only let woman cut my hair. No way, no how is a man going to run his hands through my hair)

Dental Hygienist -- your choice: Male or Female? (this one’s pretty easy since my wife is my Hygienist, BUT, if I had a choice, again it would be a no-brainer. I just can’t imagine letting some guy stick his fingers in my mouth. Then there’s that closeness. We are talking inches away.)

Anybody else out there crazy like me??

J, J, J.

Just put on a blindfold and get over it.

I would wonder about the whines and moans though. Sort of like riding a horse?

I did have a very interesting experience once with a female hygenist who had to lean way over and make bodily contact on my arms and shoulders, if you know what I mean. It wasn't your wife, though.

When I get a massage, I generally want a masseur (male) rather than a masseuse (female), precisely because of the strength issues you discuss here. Proper professional massages are strictly nonsexual, so I have no issue with it.

Honestly J, I don't think I would describe your case as mild. I find that I have had better haircuts from males many times even though I have had mainly female stylists most of the time. I am getting ready to return to a male stylist who did my hair years ago after seeing what he was able to do with my son's hair for his wedding. Admittedly I did leave one very good male stylist many years ago because he was just too forward with the body language  and I am not talking swishing about.

What a funny thread!

Over the past 30 or so years, I have had two long term hairdressers. One female, one male (hetero, married, father of 6 kids, went to school with my female hairdresser from 75 to roughly 85). Anywho, I am just about to go back to him, b/c there's just something about a male hairdresser. He always cut my hair in a flattering way, never butchered it. I've had a few butcherings, LOL.

Here's a new one - GYN, I prefer male. And Jewish!

Whoa...Doctors. wasn't even thinking about them. For us guys, when the exam calls for the "Turn your head to the side and cough", by that point, I'm not sure it matters who is holding the jewels. But on that note: just why is it we have to turn our head to the side?

Not I. I want a female, she can relate to female issues much more than a man can. I used to have a male and he totally wrote off an issue I was having, and a female would have understood much more.

j, my hubby is just like you. He doesn't want any man touching him that does not have to. And hes just as bad about the clothes he wears, you won't catch him in pink, or any pastel. I have alot of respect for a man that will put on and wear and pink shirt. :P

Something tells me that colonoscopies are really going to be traumatic for you.

For me-hair, female only, men stylists utterly ruin my hair, tried several, nah, no thank you, I like to have my hair the way I want it.

I had a female gyn, just went back to a male gyn, she was a little too, I don't know, it didn't feel right.

Dental-don't matter to me, I have about 15 teeth left, so not much to bother with

I always thought you were supposed to have a massage therapist of the same sex. I was told "masseuse" and "masseur" have negative connotations related to the sex industry and if you chose one of the opposite sex, it was generally for sensual massages only. Of course, that wouldn't be the case for me. *snicker* But I only get deep muscle massages anyway.

As far as haircuts, I only get them once a year and I always get sick afterwards. My mom used to tease me and say I was related to Sampson. Sure enough, I got a cut last Friday in time for the holidays...and I've had a cold for the past three days.

Never had or even see a male dental hygenist. I guess they exist.

I thought I wanted a woman GYN but after having two different women who were insensitive, cold, and abrupt I changed my mind. Male GYN have always been more considerate and kinder.

Me too - I especially love it when a topic morphs into a completely different direction than the author intended. If that author isn't too terribly annoyed with us.

And well we do need to point who the author of this thread is - j. When j starts a topic, ANYTHING can happen.

LOL

I don't know about a colonoscopy, but I've been in for the Prostate exam, which is no picnic either. When I hear these words: "Now let's you just drop them pants", I get a certain queasy feeling in my gut that can't be described.

Go here to hear my doctor speak. His name is Don Job :)
