I'm at 39F with temps slowly, but steadily falling. Saw some breaks in the clouds while out runing errands which has allowed temps to fall. There was a LOT of smoke by The Woodlands Mall - a big fire somewhere - unfortunately that looks like the most interesting "atmospheric" event of the night this far north.

This evening's weather reminds me of one of my father's old sayings (God rest his soul) when an "If only" situation cropped up: If my aunt had b***s, she'd be my uncle."

Hovering near 37F at the moment here in Spring. Brr..
Also, my high today was only about 47F here (49F at IAH). This is now officially our first sub-50F high of the winter season.
Here are other area highs today...
Conroe = 47F
Tomball = 49F
Hobby = 48F
Galveston = 46F
Brenham = 43F
This was IAH's coldest high temp. since Feb. 19th, 2006 (the high on that date was 38F).

I'm still at 39F - barely. Almost down a degree in the last hour. At this rate maybe I'll only hit 31-32 instead of the upper 20s currently forecasted by the NWS. It looks like the rain to the SW is falling apart. I hope that doesn't mean thinning clouds too...
BTW - has anyone looked over towards LA? Many locations below freezing and lots of 30-32 readings in Bayou Country. What's amazing to me is the North Shore is in the 20s but NOLA is still an isolated patch of low 40s.

NOLA is also reporting "Mostly Cloudy" while Slidell is reporting "Fair". I wonder if this has to do with a light north wind moving over the fairly warm lake Pontchartrain and creating lake-effect clouds?jschlitz wrote:I'm still at 39F - barely. Update: I just checked outside and I see stars. Looks like some clouds still to the SW but overall it's thinning out. I'm also down to 38F with a dewpoint back down to 23F. I am deathly afraid of what the AM will bring - I did not protect anything thinking the clouds would save us - we'll see....

What a strange weather night!
Hooks airport (In Tomball) rose back up to 39F at 10pm and has remained steady at 39F now at 11pm...however IAH is now down to 34F! Also, Conroe is now down to 32F. It is strange to see IAH 5-degrees colder than Tomball. That usually never happens. Seems like temperatures will vary greatly tonight depending on who sees cloud breaks and who does not.

BTW: I just did a check and I am now down to 34.7F in Spring!!! That is a 2.3-degree drop in just 30 minutes for me! Amazing! It is crazy how fast we are dropping during these clear periods we are getting tonight. I am afraid to think what will happen if we go completely clear (especially since the dewpoint at IAH is staying steady near 23F).

Now another update..lol..just 30 minutes later I am back up to 36.3F! What strange swings! The reason for this one was a small deck of clouds that has swung overhead in the last half hour. However, these clouds are now moving out so I expect another rapid drop and by midnight I will likely be near 34F.
The final temperature results tomorrow morning will be interesting to see.
