John, while the walls around you may make you feel alone, please know that the spirit and hearts of those of us at S2k are always, ALWAYS close to you. Knowing that there are others who care is often what carries us through the difficult times.
Losing a parent is not an easy thing. Losing someone during the holiday season is a heavy burden indeed.
Being strong, toughing it out, does not mean you should not grieve. Take the time when and where you need it to do that. And understand that memories and the love your mom had for you will never ever be taken away.
Check in with us during the days ahead. When one day seems better than another, use that time to rest. When one day seems impossible to get through, draw on others around you and others here to help.
Good things grow even out of our darkest times and deepest sadness.
You will discover that truth even more in 2007.
God bless you and hold you close during these days.
Steve

Well.. I've been put into an interesting position.. not intentionally lol..
Andreas Mom told Andrea "If Johnny doesn't come down tonight.. he may as well not come at all.." {she has not much $ or much gas in the car and she'd have to go to Winter Haven to come and get me lol}
Anyway.. I have been backed into an interesting position.. If I want Andrea to be up here with me for Mom's funeral.. {it'll most likely be Friday} I may be FORCED to take my 3 days off..
Here's why.. Andrea's short on $ right now and would need a ticket to take the short bus ride from Haines City/Winter Haven.. so I'd more than happily pay for her bus ticket..
I'd spend tomorrow and maybe Thursday at Andrea's.. and then come home Friday morning.. or just stay tomorrow and the 2 of us come home Thurs. {prelim time for funeral is Fri evening}
Basically.. In a nutshell.. I've been forced to take my 3 days off if I want Andrea up here with me Friday. Her mom is being a pain in the butt lol..
Another option is pray that Andrea gets paid b4 Friday and then she'd be able to come up here herself..
If u have any clue what I just said. God Bless You! lol.. but if ya don't.. I'll try to re-explain this.. lol

Thanks guys.. and btw..
YOU ALL WIN! Andrea wins, everyone else that has been brow beating me to death to take my 3 days off is gonna win..
I'm going to work tomorrow.. but only to sign my bereavement papers 1st thing in the morning and be on my merry way..
I'm only doing it because I'm getting sick of hearing everyone tell me "Take ur 3 days!".. so now everyone can shut up,.
Frustration rant over lol..

I think it's finally starting to hit me. After shock and awe.. I might be starting to grieve or at least show some signs of it..
Went to church tonight.. My name is on top of the Wednesday night prayer list.. and the 1st person who saw me crying thought it was because I was having problems with Andrea.. then I had to explain no that my mom died..
Her funeral is going to be Friday in St Cloud and I'm off till Sunday.. RIP Mom.. I love u..

Grieving is normal. For me, sometimes when I hear a song or see something that reminds me of my dad, I get teary-eyed (I lost my dad 2 days after Katrina). Just remember you have a lot of support from us here on the s2k boards.

Grieving is 100% normal. I lost my grandmother in August 2005 and I remember having to leave my house because I couldn't take the strain...I'd already had 2 bad days and that had just added to it.

Oh John, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. But rejoice in the knowledge that she is with God and very very happy now and is not in any pain and has her right mind and is watching down here checking on her son and other family members.
Please know that we are always here for you, in good times and in bad times and in sad times. We are all one big extended family all across the world!

I'm so sorry --- there is nothing worse than a loved one dieing around the holidays (my Dad died on Dec 15, and we buried him on my Birthday Dec. 19).
Draw strength from your faith, family, and friends. May God bless you and your family during the grieving and healing process.
Btw -- My Dad died in 1993 and I grieve to this day. It's normal and there is nothing wrong with it. Along with the grieving is a lifetime of memories that I can recall with vivid clarity. I will never forget my Dad.

John - everyone is right, grieving is very normal. What I've noticed is that each of us grieve in our way. Some internal, some external. Some people cry openly, others in private. My dad passed away in 1988 and to this day, I still miss him as much as that first xmas without him. I no longer cry as much as I did back then but I seem to think about him when I am driving, walking the dog (sounds odd I know), quiet times when I'm lost in my own thoughts or memories. I firmly believe loved ones that have passed on are with us. Their spirit remains with us and I'm not embarrassed to admit I have talked outloud to my dad. Not 24/7 but yes in the car I've blurted out - I miss you Dad! Or while walking the dog, so if you pass me on the trail over at the park, yes it looks like I'm talking to my dog but in reality I'm missing my dad.
Don't bottle up your memories or feelings. In fact, I know you keep a journal, so I would suggest you write these memories down while they're fresh. I also know you want to study journalism. You are good at writing - see if your pen or your keyboard will help you through this sad-sad time.
We're here for you John, as others have so nicely said too.
