When he went to post the flyers, I went in the backyard and laid out some beach towels for her to lay on. We have a large backyard and she was pacing all over and sniffing everything. When I went back inside she hung out by the back door more. When Marty came back, he opened our shed and brought a quilt in there and put the food and water in there. It had started to rain by this time.
He went out to check on her in the rain and she came out and wouldn't go back into the shed until he left. She kept bounding after him when he went to leave the backyard. It was like he had a new buddy.
Finally at around 4:00 pm and gentleman called and asked if we had a black dog because he had called the police and they referred him to us. He was at work and when he got home and didn't see her, he thought his daughters had taken her to their Mom's house. He rode around his neighborhood for about 2 hours before calling the police. Marty got her to our garage and wrapped a towel around her and we waited for him to come to get her. At one point, she turned around to him and gave him a kiss. He was so happy and thanked Marty and I profusely. She was about 1 mile or so away from her home when Marty found her.
Marty has done this before, but it was particularly heartbreaking since it was Christmas. I looked at her while we were in the garage and asked her if she was our Christmas Angel.
THAT was the best part of Christmas for me this year!
