So -- no mail Tuesday. And I was expecting a package.

Is this common, for the government to shut down for the mourning of a past president? I can't recall this being the case in the past. :?:

They did for Reagan as well back in June of 2004. Before that, it had been a VERY long time since a State Funeral(1973).

Are we sure that includes mail?

Wow, that would make 3 straight days without mail; a VERY long time indeed.

Well, I have been trying most of last week to get a business license for the company I work for. Not open. Was wanting to get that done first thing Tuesday morning, now I have to wait yet AGAIN!

Also there is a 40 foot motor home I busted my behind to get the paperwork to get it titled and tagged. The expiration date was Friday, not open!

I take it local governments will have their own discretion, Linda, some may choose to close out of respect. It's federal government offices, not locals.

Sure it's great, unless you own a small business and want checks to come in. ;)

No disrespect to President Ford, but I don't understand why the death of a President from 30 years ago warrants a closure of the federal government.

Trying to make those of us over 30 feel old? :)

Why does it matter how long ago he served?
