It looks like a major pattern shift towards cold by the middle of the month, but the operational runs are holding the real cold air north of Texas for now. I wouldn't pay much attention to that as models do not handle arctic air very well until a couple of days out.

I hope we can get some excitement soon as this board has been way too quiet lately.

After looking at the Ensembles, EURO, and the operational GFS, I have come to the conclusion that it could turn cold sometime in January, maybe even snow.

I arrived in Amarillo at 5 a.m. Saturday morning with no snow on the ground but plenty of ice!! I didn't find this out till the next day but apparently some dry air caused them to get nothing but freezing rain. You talk about a huuuuge disappointment. Everything that I read said that they were expecting at LEAST 3 to 4 inches of snow with possibly up to 12 inches or so. That was not the case at all.

We ended up driving up to Dumas before we got into any snow and that is far as I could go. The road conditions were horrible up that way. Dumas maybe got about 2 to 3 inches and that was it...with plenty of ice! I will not be chasing snow that far again. LOL!!

The good news is, we did see snow but we hardly saw any falling from the sky. The search continues. lol

I can e-mail some pictures to someone here who could post them up. If you can, let me know.

As Johnny mentioned, the weekend winter weather was a huge bust due to the dry air that caused the TX Panhandle region to have nothing but freezing rain (although it's no more disappointing than late 2005 when DFW had a trace of freezing drizzle.) Although the wekend forecasts for Lubbock and Dimmit seem promising.

Well, the Texas Panhandle region may not have gotten some snow, but El Paso sure did. They'll be getting some rain and snow today, and Friday Night into Saturday.

Hey aggiecutter, what is the timeframe you are speaking of? I'm still trying to understand how to read those ensembles and I can't determine the timeframe of the winter storm for Texas. Thanks.

I have descended from the heights of Mount Bastardi bringing good news to the people of Texas.

The Wise One says there is a strong chance of one or two significant winter events for the major cities of Texas down to the I-10 corridor. Snow and ice events. This will occur during the period between mid and latter January.

Share this news gently to EWG as I am concerned he will spontaneously combust when he hears it.

I dunno, the accuweather site has us in the mid 70's till the middle of Jan!!! Are things going to change after the 17th? It seems awfully warm in Jan to have highs in the mid 70's... I want something cooler, maybe with ice or snow?

We had a high of 54 and its 55 out now and was 57 earlier... getting darker outside now... Looks like the rain moving in from the Sealy area might get us, but its moving really fast.... we will see....
