This event defintely caught some people off-guard. I heard the tornado sirens didn't sound in the county either. Fortunately it doesn't seem like the damage was too bad there.
Well it came through here with just torrential rain briefly and thunder/lightning. There was a tornado warning in the county to the south.

Here's a link to pictures of the damage in Iberia Parish. As you can see, some of these homes were completely flattened.

Deadly tornadoes are fairly rare around here but as you can see it can happen. Such an unfortunate event for these people. Our local weatherman seems to think it could have been an F2 given the damage, we'll see what the NWS comes up with.

Sounds like an F1 at the most.

SamSagnella wrote:The deadly New Iberia tornado has been preliminarily rated as an F1. Also, they're attributing only two of the three reported deaths to the tornado itself, with the final fatality officially recorded as a heart attack.
That seems quite low considering the damage. True, those are mobile homes, but I would have gone F2 there.

Please note that all of these findings are preliminary based on
initial surveys. Additional surveys will be conducted over the
weekend or early next week which may cause revision to some of these
findings, and which will likely find additional tornado tracks.
The National Weather Service would like to offer its sincere thanks
to the emergency management directors in Kemper, Neshoba, and Newton
counties, as well as personnel from the Mississippi emergency
management agency and the American Red Cross, for their invaluable
assistance in completing today's damage surveys.[/quote]
