Lets review, it all kicked off with a historic all time record flood event in early November. Then a major arctic blast that dumped a foot and a half of snow in my area knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people for days. (3 days for me) single temp low temps. Then came the biggest windstorm to hit the Seattle area since the 1963 Columbus Day storm. Millions without power, major roads blocked by hundreds of massive downed trees. Took over three weeks to get everyones juice back on. 17 people died because of that storm.
Then there were several smaller wind events, many thunderstorms, heavy rain, mud slides, ect. Then came last night....a west wind hammered us with gusts over 60MPH. Straight west winds are a little unusual, usually the big winds come from the south. Trees were not used to it, so we were once again plunged into darkness last night as big branches were nailing my house causing many "bumps in the night". Was very erie!! This whole area looks like a bomb has gone off with stacks of downed trees and branches just everywhere. No other winter even comes close to what has gone on, at least in my lifetime. Another major storm coming in right now promising another west wind event, up to another 2" of rain fall, and another 3' of snow in the mountains on top of the 2'-3' that has already fallen over the past 24hrs.
Then comes Tuesday. Another MAJOR system, this one coming from the NW, its going to blast in arctic air with damaging NW winds with it. Rain turns to snow and it gets bitter cold from there on out. Totally amazing. Will never forget this epic '06/'07 season. I wish every weather nerd like myself could experience what i have over the last 2.5 months. Its been amazing. Just had to share my experience on this wild and wolley winter in the northwest.
