Severe Weather: January 7, 2007 - Map added
A large tornado watch (WT 10) has been issued, extending from Lake Ponchartrain, LA to the northeastern-most county in Alabama. A SW-NE oriented line of thunderstorms is currently entering the central counties of Alabama, and visible satellite shows an area of clearing ahead of this feature. Surface analysis shows temperatures in the upper 60s/lower 70s and dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s across the srn 2/3 of Alabama. With clearing skies ahead of the squall line and increasing destabilization across the area, sfc CAPEs should reach at least 1000 j/Kg by mid-afternoon. Though the thermodynamic profile leaves something to be desired, there is strong shear in place and conditions do appear favorable for at least a few tornadoes -- especially if any discrete cells can develop ahead of the main line.

Tornado warning now in effect for the Montgomery, AL metro area until 345 local time. TOR associated with discrete cell ahead of main line, 'cleaner' inflow available with enhanced SRH ...tornado very possible in an around the city.
Also, new tornado watch in effect for GA.
Tornado warning extended NE from Montgomery County into Elmore County as of 320 CT.

BWER becoming visible on the Elmore County cell...imminent tornado threat for the towns of Willow Springs and Bingham... should pass east of the county seat of Wetumpka.
Edit: The public reported a tornado in the Sheraton Heights Apt Complex very near Montgomery as the cell passed thru -- not at all surprised by this. The town of Eclectic (pop. 1100) is in the immediate path.
Volatile situation for areas already reeling from severe weather earlier this week...

Tornado warning for the Elmore County cell now extended NEwd into southern Tallapoossa County, which will likely affect the Dadeville (pop. 3100) area within the next 15 min.
Luckily, it appears that the southern part of the Tallapoosa County area is sparsely populated.
Also, separate cell now tornado warned in the NErn part of the state in Clay County near the Lineville area (pop 2400).

Wow...I must say I am very impressed with the supercell that initiated in Mongomery County about two hours ago, and is still going strong, now crossing the state line into Troup County Georgia. I aven't heard of any confirmed reports of tornadoes from trained spotters, but I'd be shocked if it hasn't been producing intermittant tornadoes across much of its lifetime, especially near the tiny town of Five Points, AL, which was extremely close to the most dangerous part of the storm. That being said, this storm luckily seemed to traverse mostly rural areas of eastern Alabama but unfortunately this trend will start to wind down as it moves in the general direction of Atlanta. Also it is worth noting that this cell will likely affect portions of Coweta County, which was affected by two tornadoes just two days ago. See thread: confirmed tornadoes of the Jan 4/5 event.

From what I can piece together from the LSR regarding the Coweta County damage,
it is along a roughly two mile long path extending in a southwest-to-northeast direction.
Although the damage report begins at Blalock Lake and ends at Earl North Road,
the damage has yet to be surveyed and the actual path may be significantly longer.
Please Note:
This map is approximate, please refer to NWS statements and documents for official information
regarding this event. Also, for reference, Newnan is ~5 miles from the end of the path as shown.
