My uncle, who unfortunately passed away January 26, 2006, at 44 years, was who got me interested in weather. He would always get excited when severe weather was forecast and sometimes would act like severe weather was forecast. "Big storms tonight," he would say even though the weather was nowhere close to getting active. That was when I was old enough to make simple sentences (3 or 4 years old). Plus, I got real interested in the thunderstorms that shook me out of bed at 1 a.m.! (OK, I was scared.......but...
) Things built on from there.

I used to spend my summers on my grandpa's farm in the Pan Handle of Texas when I was but a wee lad...we'd sit on the front porch, the smoke from his pipe would swirl my head and the THUNDERSTORMS
We could see them coming MILES away...the towering heads, the lightning starting in those heads, the still of the air just before they'd hit, the smell of rain on the Plains, the swirling wall cloud, the clouds turning GREEN, the hail, the wind and ultimately...a TORNADO, yeah....that's when I became a weather NERD

On May 8, 1979, I was in high school in Tampa, FL. T-storms trained for about 16 hours.
Result: 10 tornadoes just in Hillsborough county alone. (mostly F0,F1), 14" rain, continuous/uninterrupted 13 hr tornado warning (not watch).
Outside of tropical wx, I've never seen such an isolated, continuous onslaught. It seeded a lifelong interest (OBSESSION) and thirst for knowledge.
When others complain about the weather, I can enjoy even the most boring nimbostratus day, just knowing the cause and effect. Besides, someone on the planet must be having storms. With the internet, I can enjoy watching theirs too!
