With echoes of the Sago Mine Disaster's tragic flurry of misinformation, Indonesian officials are now recanting their earlier statements that wreckage and 12 survivors of a missing Adam Air B737-400 had been found. The information indicating that the jet had been located was later identified as incorrect and came from rumors spread by villagers in the remote areas of Sumatra. The U.S. embassy in Jakarta is now confirming that three American citizens were in fact aboard the ill-fated two-hour flight from Java to Sulawesi. Though the embassy has yet to identify the Americans, The Oregonian newspaper has identified the three as a father and two daughters from the Bend, Oregon area. The two daughters, both reported to be University of Oregon students, were apparently visiting their father, who works for P.T. Fendi Mungil, an Indonesian manufacturing company (again, according to OregonLive.com).
My thoughts and prayers are with all passengers and families involved in the mystery surrounding the fate of Adam Air Flight 574.

We're now six days into this mystery, and rescue crews (numbering in the thousands) are scouring hundreds of square miles of land and water. I can't imagine what these families are going through, and hopefully some news breaks soon for their sake.

Looks like the US Navy is lending a hand!!
The USNS Mary Sears, which has sonar and satellite imagery capabilities, has been called in to see if the metal is part of Adam Air Flight KI-574, which fell off radars in the area during 80 mph winds
