Based on the most recent Local Storm Report issued by the Springfield Office, it appears that the entire CWA received at least 1/8" of ICE (not sleet) by 7AM this morning. Within that area, it appears as though a band of 3/4"-1" exists, running NEwd from north of Neosho, through Miller, to north of Buffalo. Keep in mind that 6 hours have passed since these reports were accurate!! I'm workin on a google earth map to plot the region most affected.

Most regions are south and east of a line from Joplin MO to Bolivar MO (30 miles north of Springfield MO). Miller is west of Springfield (actually between Joplin and Springfield).

It may be an unprecedented storm but that region is very prone to ice storms. We will probably not see Garrett for several days. :(

Hi everyone. Haha... I may be the only one in SW MO still with power. We have about 3/4" of ice here at the house. All of our trees are pretty much gone or will be soon. The radio just said that 85% of Monett is without power. Mom lives across town and has been without power since 1:30 this morning. Not fun at all!

This ice storm is quite crazy. I went through the one back in 1987 (albeit I was young) but I don't think this one matches it yet although we have 48 more hours to go. The heaviest bout is expected to come through tomorrow. eek!

Thanks. I hope 2007 calms down soon. I can't take many more weeks like this one.

...UNPRECEDENTED ICE STORM WILL PARALYZE MUCH OF THE MISSOURI
OZARKS...

HEAVY ACCUMULATIONS OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET THAT HAVE OCCURRED
ACROSS MUCH OF THE MISSOURI OZARKS CAUSED MAJOR TREE AND POWER LINE
DAMAGE. LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS HAVE DECLARED PORTIONS
OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI A DISASTER AREA.

ANOTHER ROUND OF FREEZING RAIN WILL IMPACT THE REGION THROUGH THIS
EVENING BRINGING ADDITIONAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS TO AREAS MAINLY ALONG
AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM CASSVILLE TO SALEM. ANOTHER ROUND OF
HEAVIER FREEZING RAIN WILL SPREAD ACROSS REGION SUNDAY. TOTAL ICE
ACCUMULATIONS BY LATE SUNDAY WILL RANGE FROM THREE QUARTERS OF AN
INCH TO TWO INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.

THE ADDITIONAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS THROUGH SUNDAY WILL CAUSE
CATASTROPHIC TREE AND POWER LINE DAMAGE...PARTICULARLY ALONG THE
INTERSTATE 44 CORRIDOR. TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO
DETERIORATE TONIGHT AND BECOME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE IN SOME
AREAS...ESPECIALLY ON UNTREATED ROAD SURFACES. IN ADDITION...MANY
ROADS WILL BE BLOCKED BY FALLEN DEBRIS...TREES AND POWER LINES.

MANY RESIDENTS OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI WILL BE WITHOUT POWER FOR
SEVERAL DAYS. ANYONE PLANNING TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE REGION SHOULD
PLAN TO STAY AWAY FROM THE MISSOURI OZARKS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

MUCH COLDER AIR WILL SPREAD INTO THE REGION AS WE HEAD INTO EARLY
NEXT WEEK. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS...AND
POSSIBLY BELOW ZERO MONDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHTS. THESE BITTERLY COLD
TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY AGGRAVATE THIS DISASTER AND CAUSE HUMAN
SUFFERING AMONG THOSE WITHOUT HEAT AND POWER.

THOSE WHO USE IMPROVISED HEATING SOURCES TO ATTEMPT TO WARM THEIR
HOMES ARE URGED TO USE EXTREME CAUTION. DANGERS OF CARBON MONOXIDE
POISONING AND FIRE INCREASE DRAMATICALLY WITH SUCH DEVICES. IN
ADDITION...THE COLD TEMPERATURES EXPECTED FROM MONDAY INTO WEDNESDAY
MAY LEAD TO WATER PIPES BREAKING...ESPECIALLY WITH HOMES AND
BUSINESSES WITHOUT HEAT OR POWER.

LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCIES SHOULD CONTINUE COORDINATING
EFFORTS TO MINIMIZE IMPACTS FROM THIS IMPENDING DISASTER. THIS IS A
VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST FORECAST AND
ADVISORIES CONCERNING THIS MAJOR WINTER STORM.

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH
MONDAY MORNING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SHREVEPORT HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH
MONDAY MORNING.

AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT WHICH HAS PUSHED THROUGH MUCH OF NORTHEAST
TEXAS...SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND EXTREME SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS IS
EXPECTED TO BE REINFORCED BY YET ANOTHER VERY COLD AIRMASS SUNDAY
NIGHT ACROSS THE REGION. THIS AIRMASS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BRING
TEMPERATURES NEAR OR BELOW FREEZING BEGINNING LATE SUNDAY NIGHT
AND CONTINUING THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY MONDAY. LIGHT RAIN
IS EXPECTED TO OVERRIDE THIS SECONDARY COLD AIRMASS AND IF
TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW FREEZING...THE RESULT WILL BE FREEZING RAIN
WHICH WOULD LEAD TO VERY HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. FREEZING
RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT...MAINLY LESS THAN ONE
QUARTER OF AN INCH. HOWEVER...IT IS UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME THE
DEGREE OF THE COLD AIR AND JUST HOW MUCH RAINFALL THIS NEXT SYSTEM
MAY PRODUCE. FREEZING RAIN AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF ONE QUARTER OF AN
INCH WOULD LIKELY RESULT IN ELECTRICAL OUTAGES FROM DOWNED TREES
AND POWERLIENS. FOR THIS REASON... PREPARATIONS NEED TO BE MADE ON
SUNDAY FOR A POSSIBLE FREEZING RAIN EVENT ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHEAST
TEXAS...SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS BEGINNING LATE
SUNDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUING THROUGH AT LEAST THE FIRST HALF OF
MONDAY.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE
LATEST FORECASTS.

This is from the Springfield AFD.

---
WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE...ADDITIONAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS
OF 0.5" WILL BE COMMON ALONG THE I-44 CORRIDOR. THIS WILL PLACE
STORM TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS IN THE 1.5 TO 2.5" RANGE. TO SAY THE
LEAST...THIS IS DEVASTATING GIVEN THE CURRENT DISTRIBUTION OF POWER
OUTAGES IN THESE AREAS. SIMPLY PUT...A PROLONGED PERIOD OF POWER
OUTAGES IS EXPECTED IN THE I-44 CORRIDOR WHICH WILL HAVE A MAJOR...
DANGEROUS AFFECT ON AREA RESIDENTS THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF THE
UPCOMING WEEK.
AN ALREADY INCREDIBLE ICE STORM LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE
VAULTED TO LEGENDARY STATUS. DATES SUCH AS 12/31/1978 AND 12/26/1987
COME TO MIND...AND THIS EVENT WILL LIKELY SURPASS THOSE EVENTS.

Track power outages in eastern Missouri and Central Illinois here - http://apps.ameren.com/outagemap/

99,000 customers out in that region, down from a peak of about 115,000.

Good advice, Miss Mary! And, all you kitty owners, don't forget that
kitty litter does the same thing - melts the ice and doesn't erode the concrete.

Hang in there, Garrett! I'm praying for Grandpa, too, wxbuddy!

All you folks in this storm's path - stay safe!

Hi everyone! Still with power here, but mom is still without. My stepfather came by while ago and took me for a ride while ago. It looks like a frozen war zone. We did have part of a tree come down and land on the SW edge of the house. From what we can tell, there is no damage but we aren't going to get out under the tree to look and find out. The sound here if you step outside is eerie. If you have never witnessed an ice storm before, the sound is undescribable.

Yes, the next and likely strongest impulse will be breaking out later tonight across West Texas and spreading NE throughout the day on Sunday. This is far from over...
