Our power has been flickering and flashing on and off now for the past 10 minutes. It may go soon!

We did have part of a tree come down and land on the SW edge of the house. From what we can tell, there is no damage but we aren't going to get out under the tree to look and find out. The sound here if you step outside is eerie. If you have never witnessed an ice storm before, the sound is undescribable.
Ahhhh, gives me thoughts of the 1998 ice storm...lost power for 27 days in it...

Ouch. I wonder how you managed to live through that?
Getting creative with generators and our own production. We were the only house in the area with heat for much of the time.

Still here hanging on to the power by a thread. If we get the 1/4" - 3/4" of additional ice today that they expect I won't be able to stay online. I haven't called my mother yet this morning but one of my sisters came over to spend the night last night. I am not getting out in this mess but my stepdad brought her. I told her that she was here for the duration!

Garrett - thank you for the updates. I can't imagine having an ice storm last this long. We've had our share in Cincinnati but temps almost always rise above freezing and the ice melts. Ice storms here have never last more than a day and usually, a matter of hours. Stay safe. Do you have enough provisions?

Yes, we have been cooking up food that we can eat without any heat except the fireplace. We also have lots of soda, water, non-perishables ready. Now all we can do is wait.

Be carefull everybody and be prepared during the 98 ice storm the radio was the only source of information once the power went down in all the rural areas and it was a lifesaver. So take it easy folks and really watch out for each other i wasn't down for as long as crazy was in 98 but you really appreciate your neighborrs in a time like this. take care of each other and my thoughts are with you.

I really don't see this being a major ice event for the DFW area. It's really not cranked up like they thought it would be and the latest Forecast Discussion sums it up pretty well:
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
630 PM CST SUN JAN 14 2007
.AVIATION...
THE TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN HOLDING NEARLY STEADY ALL AFTERNOON...
WITH TEMPS AT KAFW AND KFTW 31-32F...AND 33F AT KDAL AND KDFW.
A LARGE AREA OF RAIN WITH SOME EMBEDDED SLEET WILL BE MOVING
ACROSS THE METROPLEX TAF SITES THROUGH AT LEAST 06-08Z.
TEMPERATURES SHOULD FALL TO FREEZING BETWEEN 02Z AND 04Z AT
DFW AND DAL. WACO HAS BEEN HOLDING AT 34F...AND PROBABLY WON/T
FALL TO FREEZING UNTIL AROUND 06Z. A SECONDARY COLD FRONT WILL
MOVE OVER CENTRAL OKLAHOMA WILL MOVE INTO THE METROPLEX TOWARD
SUNRISE...WITH NORTHERLY WINDS INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KNOTS
DEVELOPING DURING THE MORNING. IFR/LIFR CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH 08-09Z...WITH CONDITIONS SLOWLY IMPROVING TO MVFR
AFTERWARDS. AS DRIER AIR FILTERS IN BEHIND THE FRONT...WE SHOULD SEE
VFR CONDITIONS DURING THE AFTERNOON. #58
&&
.UPDATE...
601 PM CST SUN JAN 14 2007
HAVE DECIDED TO UPDATE THE FORECAST TO CHANGE FREEZING RAIN TO RAIN
FOR THIS EVENING FROM GATESVILLE AND TEMPLE NORTHEAST TO SULPHUR
SPRINGS AND ATHENS. DO NOT THINK THIS AREA WILL REACH FREEZING OR
BELOW BY MIDNIGHT.
ALSO...IT/S LOOKING MORE LIKE THE MAIN EVENT ACROSS THE ICE STORM
WARNING AREA WILL BE THIS EVENING THROUGH 300 AM. SOME LINGERING
LIGHT PRECIPITATION (SLEET) IS EXPECTED AFTERWARDS THROUGH EARLY
AFTENROON. THE WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL SHIFT SOUTHWARD INTO THE
FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY AREA EARLY MONDAY.
THIS ALL MEANS THAT THE MORNING COMMUTE WILL BE HAZARDOUS TO SAY THE
LEAST ACROSS ALL OF NORTH TEXAS...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE METROPLEX
AND ALL AREAS NORTHWEST OF A GOLDTHWAITE TO CANTON LINE. EVEN A
LIGHT ACCUMULATION OF ICE COULD SHUTDOWN I-20 IN THE RANGER HILL
AREA WEST OF DFW. 75

I live in the KC area.... We had the sleet/freezing rain mixture here. It was more sleet than anything. The farther you go south and east of here, the more freezing rain there was. I know that around Clinton MO it was pretty much sleet but if you go 17 miles south of there, you start running into the ice problems... Lowry City had 1/8 inch of ice on elevated surfaces there as of Sat. I hope that my friend's place near Truman Lake didn't suffer any damage.

I am back!!!!! We lost power at around 5 pm yesterday and did not get it back on until 4 am. It has gone off again since then but each time has been for short durations, ie: 2-4 minutes. Mom is still without power. She has been since approx. 1:30 am Saturday morning.
