All the mets on the local weather stations are predicting a wintry mix for the Ark-La-Tex region Friday night into Saturday morning. This was channels 3,6, and 12 out of Shreveport-Texarkana.

I would believe it. Plenty of precip out there right now and temps in Llano and Cherokee are both at 30 degrees.

I just took a look at the 0z GFS and I see 60s and no precip at all for the weekend. Looks like it'll be a great weekend for fishing or golf in the Texarkana area.

35.6 degrees in Brenham, TX right now? That's getting pretty chilly for a location not too far from Houston.

I just looked at the 0z GFS, also. There was no winter precip to be found next weekend in this region, so that probably means we'll have a snow storm.

Man, the temperature really started dropping in the last hour. I'm sitting at 40 degrees and dropping here just west of Conroe.

I can confirm that the temperature is now below freezing. The weather gauge shows 30F with a dew point of 27F. Ice is now accumulating on grass/plants, and a little on the pavement. I am more concerned now with the ongoing precipitation events, it could be a mess tomorrow on the roads. Apparently, the second arctic surge is starting to come in.

Temps are in the lower 40s here in Spring already. Makes me wonder if we may already be as low as the mid 30s by daybreak?!

btw: just checked and we were not expected to be this cold until sometime overnight.

Something interesting came up for my area on the NWS Ft. Worth Website:

NWS Ft. Worth Office wrote:
M.L.King Day: A chance of snow and sleet before noon, then a slight chance for sleet. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly sunny, with a high near 31. North northwest wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

I didn't think that the air was deep enough at the upper levels to support snow. I saw sleet to our west, however, I thought this sleet/mix would change over to freezing rain as it approaches the DFW metroplex.

TxDot is reporting ice on bridges and overpasses in FW, Denton and parts of Dallas. Also, there seems to be ice in Ellis County, south of Dallas.

I don't know why (since there is no ice here right now...and no serious wind either) but my power is flashing right now. I don't like the look of this.

Don't be surprised if I disappear from Storm2k for awhile.
