Well ABC News reported tonight that the men captured in the raid on an Iranian facility in Iraq were members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
That's pretty serious. CBS reported that Iranian-made weapons had been used against the U.S. and U.K. in Iraq and had killed more than 100, injured more than 600. Defense Secretary Robert Gates told the Senate Armed Services Commitee that raids into Iran would not happen however(but apparently there are plans drawn up in case they are needed) But it makes you wonder... that is considered an act of war IMO.

If the Iranians retaliate because of the capture of those men, then the U.S can go and strike inside Iran the nuclear plants. The question is if it comes to that,if congress can vote and authorize the President to go and strike Iran or the President can go whenever he sees it's time to do the raids without congress.

I highly doubt there is any conspiracy, if that is what you mean.

A raid by US troops on an Iranian office in Iraq was "absolutely unacceptable" and violated international law, Russia's foreign ministry has said.
The raid Thursday in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil was "absolutely unacceptable" and "the crudest possible violation of the Vienna convention on consular relations," ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said in a statement.
U.S Raid to Iranian Office Unacceptanle Says Russia
That statement comming from Russia is no surprise as Russia and Iran are very close friends.

U.S. does not rule out Military Action Against Iran
It all depends on what will the Iranians do as a reaction to the taking from the U.S troops of the 5 Iranians in Iraq.If they retaliate against the U.S troops inside Iraq, then the U.S can go inside Iran and bomb the nuclear plants.Time will tell if that will occur.
VicePresident Cheney statement.
The United States is going to be a bulwark against Iranian adventurism in the world, Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday, adding that Iran is "fishing in troubled waters" by trying to get a foothold in Iraq.

Chavez and Ahmadinejad Join against the U.S.
Chavez has become a leading defender of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, accusing the United States of using the issue as a pretext to attack a regime it opposes and promising to stand with Iran.
Hugo Chavez is becoming the dominant figure in the Western Hemisphere in terms of being a very beligerant person. As Castro goes away,he is rising to get the #1 position.I dont think the U.S will take any military action against Venezuela despite all the talk from Chavez against the U.S.Remember that the U.S gets plenty of oil from Venezuela.Maybe a coup can do the trick and take out Chavez.

I understand how it can seem like its going to go that way, but it won't. The worst case scenario that I have been considering is an engagement with Syria and Iran, and having Israel as our ally. This would in my opinion be a dramatic strategic mistake. It wouldn't lead to any general war however. The most it could do is undermine the dictatorships we support in the area. It would also substantially increase the price of oil.
It won't lead to any kind of global war. We are engaged in a global conflict at the moment, but it isn't a war. And unless a series of unmitigated disasters occur, it won't ever go that far.

That is the exact reason why our efforts need to be against NK, NOT Iran. If we take out Iran, we then have Chavez to deal with. NK will just have a new puppet to cause us trouble.
If Iran needs to be dealt with, let Israel do it. We need to take out the source of the problem, which would also cut off the NK arms sales to Iran, which would also increase Israel's security as Iran would not have the weapons to provide to Hezbollah through Syria

John Bolton: Mideast Peace Efforts a Waste
Sunday, January 14, 2007
As Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meets with Mideast leaders to jumpstart the peace process, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton called the attempt a waste of time.
Bolton, who also said it's time another body replace the United Nations, told the Sunday Times of London the Arab-Israeli conflict was “not a priority," adding: “I don’t see linkage to Iraq, and Hamas and Fatah are in a state of civil war.”
Now back at American Enterprise Institute, Bolton let loose on a variety of topics during the interview, from negotiating nuclear weapons with Iran to the reunification of the Korean peninsula.
“I wouldn’t have engaged in negotiations with Iran in the first place,” he told the paper, in a nod to Britain, France and Germany, nations that have made contact with Tehran. “The policy has failed. Sanctions won’t stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons.”
Bolton said President Bush and his administration would “rather find a way for diplomacy to succeed but time is running out — that's me speaking."
Regime change, he said is "preferable" to a U.S. attack on Iran's nuclear sites, though “the only course worse than the use of force is an Iran with nuclear weapons."
“President Bush has said it is unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons and he will not accept it,” Bolton said.
“There are all kinds of ways to change the regime,” he said, mentioning covert and overt means to topple the government. “We have an extensive diaspora of people with Iranian heritage in America who we don’t use effectively.”
As to the threat of nuclear weapons posed by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il, Bolton said that the only solution was through a “peaceful reunification of the [Korean] peninsula."
The vocal critic of the U.N. still believes that other organizations such as NATO might be better suited to governing world affairs.
“Fifteen years ago people said NATO would either go out of area or out of existence and now it is in Afghanistan and it is all but NATO — absent Germany and France — in Iraq,” he said. “I think NATO should go global. There is no reason why Japan and Australia shouldn’t join.”
In Bolton’s view, America needs to take the lead in global affairs because “Who else will?”
