We now have freezing drizzle here in the deeper south it started about 2 hours ago. You can see the little ice pellets on the side walk everywhere. It is on and off though it will freeze rain a little while then stop then start back up. Temp at my location is 30.2 F so we should have a nice mess in the a.m.

We are having a mix of freezing rain and very light snow flurries(I think*otherwise it could be mist mixed in with the rain?) here in Spring Branch. Colder metal surfaces are icing over and the leaves on the trees and bushes are starting to also. I'll be up for a while watching this for sure.

I have been noticing those "flurries" as well. I can't tell if they are snow or not. If they are, they are certainly very small flakes.

I think it may be sleeting a bit as well at the current time.

Yep that is exactly what I am seeing.

Observations at the airport indicate 35 degrees. Wx Underground sites have 34-35 degrees around BPT. Perhaps your thermometer is a few degrees off?

I don't live anywhere near the airport. The airport isn't even in Beaumont, but much closer to Port Arthur, although everyone assumes it's Beaumont because that's our "official" reporting station. I'm actually between Beaumont and Lumberton. Here are the closest Instaweather stations to me:

http://www.kfdm.com/sections/weather/instaweather/ - 29°

http://www.kfdm.com/sections/weather/instaweather/ - 30°

and there are others in the area reporting 29° - 32° so I feel confident the temperature is correct.

Here's the whole list...all of the ones in Beaumont are below freezing. http://www.kfdm.com/sections/weather/instaweather/

Click on: Show a list of all stations within the KFDM coverage area below the map

SouthernGale,

All I can say is I have been asking the same thing. I am just southwest of Bmt in Fannett. I have a Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station:

http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =KTXBEAUM6

I'm showing 33.2 now. But it's been dropping steadily.

I also have a Kestrel 4000 handheld anemometer/mini weather station. It has been consistent with the above link all day.

I was in Beaumont most of the day, and I saw readings with the Kestrel of around 36-37, when Weatherbug sites were 32-34.

Go figure.

Good news is the temp is certainly falling.

Looks like another 1-2 hrs. of freezing rain, sleet and may be some snow and then possibly another break working into the area for a little bit. However, there will likely be more weather following that break.

I am seeing some of the heaviest freezing rain of the event right now it seems (matches in strength with some of the bursts I saw earlier) and the ice is still building up. Remember that palm tree pic I posted earlier? Well now that same tree has about twice as much ice on it. This storm is certainly getting closer and closer to the point when damage will likely start. I have about 0.1" of ice so far and it will likely wind up being somewhere between 0.25-0.50" by the morning.

Let's just hope we can see a complete changeover to snow or sleet before it is all over!

Looks like a break soon, and then more back off to the SW for later on...

Power has flickered several times here where I am in north Austin. I hope that's not a sign of worse things to come.

Our power was flickering last night.

I just went outside and it's raining. Not drizzle, but rain!

And freezing on impact. The trees are really showing ice now, especially the neighbor's Bradford Pears. Our driveway is ice covered by a thin layer of water.

The white car in my earlier slideshow now has icicles all the way down to the ground.

I'm not shocked! I can see it from my front door in the winter when the trees loose there leaves.

Seems to be open from the cameras:

I have power flickering here in downtown Austin and the rain is continuing. I can't get ahold of anyone so if it goes out I'm stuck here to just deal with it if the power really goes out.
