today and tomorrow are in the 40s for highs here in the Houston area with rain showers. We then will warm into the 50s and may be low 60s for highs by the weekend, but things look to cool down again next week (with a possible major arctic air intrusion sometime next week as well).weartherkid wrote:how is you weather now ?

Looks like the SE and the East Coast could be in for a wakeup call.

From the CPC:
For Monday January 29 - Friday February 02: A massive Arctic air mass, one of the most extensive seen in recent years, is expected to overspread much of the eastern two-thirds of the Nation during the first half of this period, with at least one reinforcing cold outbreak in the latter part of this period. Although model runs differ on the timing and exact location, it is likely that a storm moving along the southern boundary of the cold air will produce a significant precipitation event consisting of mainly a hazardous wintry mix from northeastern Texas across the interior South with heavy snow possible from the mid-Altnatic States to New England. Some uncertainty is introduced by the fact that although it predicts a significant system across the South, the latest 12z GFS operational model run does not bring heavy precipitation north of the Carolinas.

They must be following the ECMWF closely, as the GFS is really having a difficult time trying to get a hold on the upcoming pattern. If the EURO verifies, I think Texas will feel more like Alaska for a while.

Thanks for the link aggiecutter, sounds like winter is a coming for the south and up most of the seaboard.

Looks like Florida however will not be in this mix....Again! Numerous high temp records set again today throughout central and south Florida...
Slight cooling this weekend and into early next week, but this unprecedented SE ridge should continue to shunt off any arctic intrusion...
This continues the warmest winter on record for most of central and south Florida
