The Academy Awards are mostly a joke. The voters think that a main character with a British accent makes a movie great.

The Golden Globes have much more credibility, since they actually allow movies that aren't a part of the critics' clique to be nominated.

Gosh, Patty Duke didn't have an accent -- or any lines, for that matter -- and she won.

And trust me -- when and if I'm ever a voter, the accent won't be a major selling point to me either.

I'd go for Indigénes, but it seems that movie is only nominated in the 'foreign language movie' category. It's a shame...

Best Animated Feature, I'd go for either Cars or Happy Feet. For Best Costume Design I'll go for The Devil Wears Prada. Visual Effects I'll go for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

I'll post my picks later, but I've already selected TDWP for Best Costume Design also, HH. Not to mention the fact that voters won't be able to overlook the fact that the clothes were later donated to "Dress For Success," a charity for underprivileged women.

If I were voting I'd pick:

Little Miss Sunshine for Best Picture.

Helen Mirren for Best Actress.. even though I loved Meryl in The Devil Wears Prada.. and I usually love Kate but I haven't seen Little Children yet.

Ryan Gosling for Half Nelson, but that's the only film I've seen in the Actor category.

Alan Arkin or Eddi Murphy for LMS and Dreamgirls.

..and Abigail Breslin for Little Miss Sunshine. I was happy she got a nod.

Paul Greengrass for United 93. I highly doubt he'll win though.

Borat for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Little Miss Sunshine for Best Original Screenplay.

Costume: Marie Antoinette or The Devil Wears Prada.

Documentary feature: An Inconvenient Truth or Jesus Camp

Visual: POTC: DMC
