Plans are underway for the 2007 Houston/Galveston Hurricane Workshop on Saturday, June 9th from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The workshop will provide vital information to families on how
to be prepared for the eventual impact of a major hurricane in the southeast Texas region.

CenterPoint Energy will be the presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year. CenterPoint Energy also brings
a wealth of experience and knowledge to the workshop in preparing and recovering from a major hurricane and
the restoration of power to your home. The City of Houston will once again provide the George R. Brown Convention
Center at no cost to the National Weather Service to present this very important program.

What kind of information could this workshop provide, that isn't readily available on the Internet, or in the hurricane season section of the Chronicle, or numerous other public service pamphlets, etc.?

With the conference on a Saturday, there's little reason for us to exhibit this year, I guess. I doubt many of our clients will attend on a Saturday, and the general public don't subscribe to private weather services.

I did win the generator 2 years ago, though. That's the only reason I might go - for the drawing.

Last year was the first time I went and most of the "information" is readliy available from other sources. There was a breakout session on the Contraflow/evacuation plan and I don't think it had been fully released to the public yet (it since has).

Nevertheless, it was worth my time and gas money to hear Stacy Stewart speak, meet some fellow S2K members, and get a print-quality brochure of the Rita/Katrina Lessons Learned report. Oh, and I got some cool drink koozies too.

I would attend the conference again just to meet more of the Storm2k members. Maybe this time we can meet VB. Hopefully we can get decent size group together.
