Mookgopong (Naboomspruit) - A member of the public has videos of three Limpopo police officers sleeping while on duty on two different occasions.
The three law enforcers - including a captain - were filmed sleeping in Mookgopong charge office by a Beeld reader on two successive Thursdays, January 4 and 11.
The video images on her cellphone clearly show the three officers fast asleep, with their eyes shaded by their police caps.
A woman officer is seen lying with her chest over a bench, fast asleep.
"It's a crying shame that those who are meant to be protecting us, are fast asleep on the job."
The woman, who did not want to be named, said she had phoned on the first instance to report a burglary, and no-one answered.
She then drove down to the police station at about 01:00 to see why the phones were ringing endlessly.
"I did not wake them up, let them sleep if they want to," she said.
The woman said she informed the station commander about his sleeping officers, but he did nothing about it.
"Anybody could have walked in, and taken away their service firearms. They wouldn't even have noticed."
(Can't say I'm surprised)
