#1 Postby azsnowman » Sat Feb 03, 2007 6:21 pm

This week will be a NICE break I'm tellin' ya...forecast highs in the 60's!!!! Haven't seen those temps in over 3 months, certainly NOT the past 2 weeks when highs haven't gotten out of the 20's not counting the windchill....

BUT as with any good thing, this TOO shall pass...

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

FXUS65 KFGZ 032125 AFDFGZ AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ 230 PM MST SAT FEB 03 2007 .SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING ABOVE NORMAL DAYTIME TEMPERATURES AND DRY WEATHER INTO WEDNESDAY. BY THE END OF THE WEEK...EXPECT A RETURN TO UNSETTLED CONDITIONS AS A SERIES OF STORMS FROM THE PACIFIC MOVE ACROSS ARIZONA.

&& .DISCUSSION...A HIGH AMPLITUDE RIDGE IN THE MID TO UPPER LEVELS WAS LOCATED OVER THE WEST COAST. FOR SUNDAY INTO WEDNESDAY...THE WEST COAST RIDGE WILL SLOWLY MOVE ACROSS ARIZONA BRINGING WARM AND DRY AIR ALOFT. THIS SHOULD RESULT IN WARMING OF DAYTIME TEMPERATURES TO WELL ABOVE NORMAL LEVELS. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WILL BE THE LITTLE COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...CHINLE VALLEY AND THE AREA AROUND PAGE WHERE NOCTURNALLY GENERATED INVERSIONS WILL BE SLOW TO MIX OUT THUS KEEPING DAYTIME HIGHS ON THE COOL SIDE. DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL.

BY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY...MODELS CONTINUE TO HINT THAT A PUSH OF JET STREAM ENERGY AND MOISTURE WILL MOVE ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST UNITED STATES. COOLING TEMPERATURES ALONG WITH AN INCREASE IN CLOUD COVER AND POPS BY THE END OF THE WEEK STILL LOOKS GOOD. MCCOLLUM

Yeah...it's WONDERFUL today 8-)

It's been 11 LONG years since we've had a *normal* winter, I had forgotten what it's like NOT to see the GROUND, DIRT for MONTHS on END  This is the first week since December that we've had temps out of the 10°s and 20°'s for HIGHS and LOWS  Since Dec. 1st I've had 27 nights of -0 to the coldest night, -18°...that's 27 days outta 64!!

The snowpack....yeah, it's a KILLER this year TOO 8-) some 87" up where it counts and as I've stated, Feb is TRADITIONALLY the heavist snow month!
