Best albums ever - What are your favorites?
This conversation was going on in another forum and I enjoy hearing favorites of people on things like music.
So what, to you, are the greatest albums (compilations included) ever recorded?
I've thought of these so far, but I'll likely add some more later:
Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette
The Beatles - The Beatles
Negotiations and Love Songs - Paul Simon
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
Sweet Baby James - James Taylor
The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem
Queen - Greatest Hits

Ditto on albums mentioned. Here's one I about wore out. God, I loved this album!
Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything

My teenage daughters tell me that for their generation, music is often purchased individually, on iTunes for example, and the whole concept about favorite album isn't the same as it was for say my generation (baby boomers). We bought an album and carried it out of the store, clutched to our chests sometimes. A coveted purchase. Went home, straight to our bedroom and played it non-stop. You shut that door and you were at peace. With your favorite music.
Geez, now I sound sooooo old! Reminds me of that scene in Almost Famous, near the end with the young boy wearing headphones. Lost in the music. LOL

It's a shame that it's not like this anymore.
Though the way that songs are purchased now really isn't the doing of this generation, it's the doing of record companies that became incapable of putting out an album that you could actually listen to.
It's to the point that maybe once a year an album is good enough that you can listen to it all. During the late 90's, record stores were full of $20 singles and little else.
I can think of 100 great albums from the 60's. I can't think of 10 from the last decade.

"Frampton Comes Alive" - Peter Frampton
"Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin
"Dark Side of the Moon" - Pink Floyd
"Abbey Road" - The Beatles
"Boston" - Boston
"Quadrophenia" - The Who
"Who's Next?" - The Who
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - The Beatles
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" - Elton John
For all of you James Taylor lovers out there, may I suggest "James Taylor, Live in Concert". It's a double cd and it plays, IMHO, every one of his best songs. "Country Road" is outstanding.
