Yesterday I was thinking about posting a "stick a fork in it, winter's over for central and south Texas" note. I was also thinking about writing that this morning ... until I saw THIS!!!

wow! That is pretty impressive. We will have to see if this becomes a trend on future runs.Portastorm wrote:Yesterday I was thinking about posting a "stick a fork in it, winter's over for central and south Texas" note. I was also thinking about writing that this morning ... until I saw THIS!!!![]()

I would tend to agree with you Porta, but the EURO has been showing pretty cold scenarios for Texas only to loose it in a couple of days where it then shows most of the cold air going east. I would like to see that high a little bit farther west, then we could be in business.
On a side note, the GFS actually (believe or not) has been verifying pretty well considering it's winter and it's the GFS.
Also I find it interesting that the GFS is showing some frozen precipation next Thursday for north and central Texas, so maybe the EURO is on to something.

We can't even get anything on the entire 16 day GFS that is remotely interesting to discuss. Oh well, I guess now I have no excuse to get my readings done on time for my graduate classes.
What are you studying? Major?

This is interesting...
Anyone else noticing that western Canada is beginning to cool down?

Hmmm ... the 12z European run continues its suggestion of much colder air for Texas by the middle of next week.
If you take a look at the 500 mb flow:
http://weather.cod.edu/forecast/ECMWF/e ... pd_168.gif
(look what's coming at us from the southwest!)
And the 850 mb temps:
http://weather.cod.edu/forecast/ECMWF/e ... mp_168.gif
... it kinda reminds me of the synoptic set-up of February 2003 when portions of Texas got hammered with ice, sleet, and snow for two days!
Yeah ... yeah ... yeah, I know ... don't say it. Air Force Met will be here soon to put the discussion back into reality.

CPC seems to think winter's grip may be coming back next week. If this plays out, then we might just have to wait a little longer for spring to really arrive...

Please don't cuss like that again, lol... That was a bad storm for a lot of people in North Texas.
You kidding? that was the greatest 3 days of my life! I loved it...
Our power went out in that icy event if I remember right...
But it did cancel 2 days of school and delay the third day by 2 hours, so it was ok then. But if that happened now with work and everything I'd hate it.

For the 4th run in a row, the European is advertising a winter storm for much of Texas around Feb. 14-15 time frame.

Porta, it looks like the EURO has some support from the GFS as well. The high pressure coming down isn't as strong as the EURO, but is showing some pretty cool temperatures for next week. In fact, it looks like some parts of central and north Texas could see some nasty winter weather next week as well....should be fun to follow.
I'm almost afraid to ask, but what is JB saying about next week?

Congratulations and good luck to you. As one who has two Masters degrees (MA-History and MLS-Library Science) , I will tell you it is not easy. I am working on my PhD in history and I am trying to let it get the best of me. Good luck to you. Now back to the regularly scheduled programming.
