This is the 2nd February Day of temperatures in the high 70s to near 80. The only disadvantage is the elevated Grass Fire Danger for areas south and west of the DFW area. I think a good chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday through Saturday can change all that.

Another Day, Another round of warm weather. High temperatures in some areas of North Texas may reach 80 or a little above that, so we'll see some of our neighbors do this during the day ---> :layout: . Too bad the warm weather won't last through the weekend, that's the bad news. The good news is that we may get plenty of rain that'll alleviate the drought once and for all. Of course, that comes with a hefty price...as in severe weather.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH TEXAS.

.DAY ONE...
HAZARDOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS NORTH TEXAS FRIDAY THROUGH
SATURDAY WHEN A POWERFUL UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND DRY LINE SWEEPS
ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS ALL OF NORTH TEXAS FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING DOWNBURST WINDS THE
PRIMARY HAZARDS. THUNDERSTORM CHANCES WILL END RAPIDLY FROM WEST TO
EAST SATURDAY WITH STRONG WEST WINDS AND DRY AIR EXPECTED SATURDAY
AFTERNOON. THE STRONG WIND AND LOW HUMIDITIES WILL RESULT IN AN
ELEVATED GRASS FIRE DANGER SATURDAY AFTERNOON...ESPECIALLY WEST OF
INTERSTATE 35.

THERE WILL BE ANOTHER CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE EASTERN
HALF OF NORTH TEXAS ON WEDNESDAY.

SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH TONIGHT.

The other piece of good news is that we won't be dipping into the freezing temperatures anytime soon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the western 2/3rds of North Texas for persons in Bosque, Collin, Comanche, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Erath, Grayson, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Jack, Johnson, Limestone, Montague, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, Stephens, Tarrant, Wise, and Young Counties until 6:00PM CST Saturday.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING GUSTY WINDS AND DRY
CONDITIONS TO MUCH OF NORTH TEXAS ON SATURDAY. WESTERLY WINDS
SUSTAINED BETWEEN 30 AND 35 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH WILL BE
LIKELY. IN ADDITION...RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES WILL DROP BELOW 25
PERCENT ALONG THE INTERSTATE 35 CORRIDOR...WITH VALUES IN THE
TEENS OVER WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA.

IN COLLABORATION WITH TEXAS FIRE AGENCIES...THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR
SATURDAY. THIS WATCH WILL LIKELY BE UPGRADED TO A RED FLAG
WARNING.

STRONG WESTERLY WINDS WILL ALSO EFFECT AREAS EAST OF THE
WATCH...BUT RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN AT OR
ABOVE 30 PERCENT. HOWEVER...THIS AREA MAY BE UPGRADED WITH LATER FORECASTS.

A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR. LISTEN FOR LATER FORECASTS AND POSSIBLE
RED FLAG WARNINGS.

The DFW area is gonna have a busy 36-hour period with thunderstorms in the region. Some of those could quickly become severe with a threat of frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, large hail, and damaging winds. An isolated tornado or 2 can be spawned in cities near the Red River though.

A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for the western 2/3rds of North Texas until Saturday Evening because of high winds and lower humidity levels. However with the rain we're getting, that watch may be cancelled sooner, so it'll be highly unlikely that a RED FLAG WARNING maybe issued.

Remember on my last post about a Red Flag Warning not being issued? I guess I was wrong. In collaboration with Texas Fire Agents, the National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING until 7:00PM CST Saturday for all of the North Texas region.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:WEST AND SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 30 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS
UP TO 50 MPH SATURDAY. MEANWHILE RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL FALL
BELOW 25 PERCENT BY LATE MORNING. ALTHOUGH AREA FUELS MAY RECEIVE
SOME RAINFALL OVERNIGHT...THE STRONG WINDS AND DRY AIR WILL
QUICKLY DRY OUT DORMANT VEGETATION.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
WILL OCCUR. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITY...AND DRY VEGETATION WILL CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH
POTENTIAL. AVOID ALL OUTSIDE BURNING AND WELDING. DO NOT TOSS LIT
CIGARETTE BUTTS OUTSIDE. REPORT WILD FIRES TO THE NEAREST FIRE
DEPARTMENT OR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICE.

In addition, a Wind Advisory has also been issued for the entire N TX region as well until 7:00PM CST Saturday.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:A STRONG SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP OVER OKLAHOMA AS
A POWERFUL UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM MOVES INTO THE PLAINS.
SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH SATURDAY MORNING.
WINDS WILL BECOME WEST SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND RANGE BETWEEN 30 AND
40 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ACROSS THE
NORTHWEST PORTIONS OF NORTH TEXAS...OR THE REGION NORTH OF
INTERSTATE 20 AND WEST OF INTERSTATE 35...WHERE WINDS WILL GUST TO
50 MPH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

STRONG WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH ARE POSSIBLE
ACROSS NORTH TEXAS ON SATURDAY. THESE WINDS WILL MAKE DRIVING
DIFFICULT FOR HIGH-PROFILE VEHICLES. BOATERS SHOULD STAY OFF AREA
LAKES AS WATERS WILL BECOME VERY ROUGH. WEAK TREES MAY BE BLOWN
DOWN AND SOME MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IS ALSO POSSIBLE. RESIDENTS
SHOULD ENSURE THAT ALL LIGHTWEIGHT OUTDOOR OBJECTS ARE SECURED.

Rainy or windy, either way it's a bad day to do so. Here's why:

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Wind Advisory to a HIGH WIND WARNING for areas along and west of a Sherman, Rockwall, Waco and Temple line. This includes the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Meridian, Gainesville, Mineral Wells, Decator, Denton, Stephenville, and Bowie.

NWS-Fort Worth wrote:A STRONG SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO OKLAHOMA

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED
OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS
IN EXCESS OF 58 MPH ARE LIKELY. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN LEAD TO
PROPERTY DAMAGE...KNOCK DOWN TREES AND POWER LINES. SEEK A STURDY
SHELTER AWAY FROM WINDOWS UNTIL WINDS SUBSIDE.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect for the remainder of North Texas.

High winds and lower humidity levels may fuel some grass fires regardless of how much rain the North Texas area has gotten. Thus a RED FLAG WARNING remains in effect for all of North Texas.

The much hyped severe weather didn't materialize for DFW. I hate severe weather, but we need the beneficial rains from the storms.

WEST WINDS OF 40 TO 50 MPH... WITH GUSTS OF 60 TO 65 MPH ARE

Here's the view from my house looking West. On a clear day, you should see a lake in the distance, and land on the other side.

High winds: Jet blown off Love runway, 400 flights canceled

WFAA ABC 8

High winds led to many flight cancellations at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Saturday, while at Love Field, an aircraft was blown off the runway.

Witnesses said the aircraft looked like a corporate jet.

Around 400 flights have been canceled at D/FW, due to the winds, said American Airlines spokesman John Hotard.

Well, everything seems to be back to normal this week, however winds will still be strong this week and humidity levels will be low, increasing the potential fire danger. Wait, I thought we're done with this fire weather! I thought our drought days are over!!!

Anyways, we have a slight chance of thunderstorms in the middle of the week. Nothing severe, but it might bring us some rain to aleviate the fire danger.

I know  I was joking b/c the photo isn't a static image, unfortunately it's a live image so if we missed seeing the dust when it was originally posted - well, we missed it....
