This is the same storm I thought I was seeing a small appendage form out from. I'm using GRAnalyst and on occasion, it's dumping MDA icons. Storm Relative Velocity is showing some good wind signatures running around -50/+50 inside this guy.

And just as I type, cells close enough to me to warrant a Severe T-Storm Warning.

WOW A wedge... And it is dark and will be very difficult to see. :( Katie Horner is on live on KCTV5.

Those storms moving into the area should stay to my north and west.

I know. Had the cap busted farther south and able to tap directly into that energy. Oh boy. Tomorrow just got VERY interesting.

"3 TORNADOES COMBINED INTO 1 WEDGE" I'm confused, 3 tornadoes merged? what is a wedge? a wedge shaped supertornado?

whats happens when a cap is broke?

sorry for the probably stupid questions.

Stay safe in KS!

Classic hook echo. This could easily put down an EF3 at least...

You essentially get what is called a multi-vortex tornado. There's more than one circulation in that tornado. When those combine, you tend to start seeing some high end damage.

From my understanding, the "cap" is a inhibitor for convection. This is keeping storms from forming even though all the factors say they should be forming. Once a "cap" disappears, you get free range for thunderstorms to rapidly form.

From what a few of us are looking at, some of the areas to the south have the ingredients necessary for explosive thunderstorm development, however, this inhibitor ("cap") is keeping it from happening.

A cap is like a lid. It keeps storms from forming. When it breaks, then that allows them to develop(and they can do it VERY rapidly). When you have a setup for tornadoes like this, that's a real problem.
