Lunar eclipse (Mar 3) - Pics and links to pics

Skywatchers eagerly awaiting Saturday's total lunar eclipse say that the spectacle could be the "best in years".

The eclipse begins at 2018 GMT, with the Moon totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT.

During "totality", only light that has been filtered through the Earth's atmosphere reaches the Moon's surface, making it appear a reddish colour.

The eclipse will be visible from the whole of Europe, Africa, South America, and eastern parts of the US and Canada.

Totality begins: 2244
Mid-eclipse: 2321
Totality ends: 2358
Moon leave umbra: 0111
Moon leaves penumbra: 0224

Unfortunately for me this eclipse, while visible for me, will occur at around 4 a.m., so I won't be seeing it.

I'll try to, but I don't think my camera has enough optical zoom to get a nice shot in the dark. Otherwise I'll just post some links to better pictures.

Are you into astronomy? I am in America and I can only see the Moon leaving Earth's shadow. Man, I am missing out. :( :grr:

Not really, only when these things happen. Astronomy just isn't my kind of thing. The link was provided by our weather service, so that's how I got there.

Not here in Az unfortunately....just read in the paper the height of the spectacular will be at 1640 hours...the sun doesn't set here until 1832 now :cry:

I'll see what I can do, 10x optical zoom should hopefully be enough. Just under an hour to go from those times.
