It's always sadder when you put a face to them. :(

Oh yeah, apologize for the earlier misinformation on the Enterprise tornado. Now I've learned not to trust Wikipedia articles anymore for information on tornado ratings :D

By the way, are there any sites that provide all official ratings from every NWS office, without having to visit each branch's web page?

No there aren't AFAIK.

That EF4 listing on Wikipedia was done by some curious onlooker. It was quickly reverted.

That is incorrect. You CAN have an EF5 for single family dwellings. Read "Revision 2" (Oct. 10 2006) of the report at http://www.wind.ttu.edu/EFScale.pdf (the family residence DI is on page 25 of the PDF, or page A-2 of the report)...

In the second photo of the tornado, it looks like you can see multiple vortices.

In all honesty, even though I know I'm not a professional met, I can say that the outbreak in the SE could have been worse. Had it not been cloudy down there during the day, it makes me wonder what sort of more energy the supercells could have drawn from to become even more powerful.

Scary that it could have possibly been worse.

Gnarly surveillance camera footage from the Sumter Regional Hospital of the tornado (a one mile-wide EF3 at this point) ripping through Americus, Georgia. This tornado was directly responsible for two deaths and "numerous" injuries.

http://www.woai.com/news/local/story.as ... 6ad65178cc

Image
There was a patient in the room as this 2 x 4 flew through the window and lodged in the wall. This is one of the best illustrations of how absolutely miraculous it is that no one was killed at the hospital, considering there were so many people exposed to flying/breaking glass in a multi-story building with a strong tornado making a direct hit, and generating 'missile' debris. WOW.

I am not surprised that the Linn County KS tornado was rated an EF 4. That house north of Blue Mound was demolished. The occupants of that house were lucky to survive. Just think if that tornado had hit a more populated area. :: SHUDDER ::

Like if that track was transposed 40 miles to the north. It would have crossed three freeways, entered many residential areas and a major business area. The maximum strength would have been in Overland Park and Olathe.

You are exactly right.... It would have been very, very bad in OP and Olathe.
