The cool-down begins today as the current temperatures stay in the 40s this morning. Matter in fact, this Easter Weekend will be ruined by some early morning rain and another strong arctic front giving temperatures on Saturday a Smack Down to the 40s during the day and 30s at night. If you must, bring out your coats once more as Old Man winter makes his final blow this spring.

Un-freakin-believeable. It seems some areas North and West of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex will be seeing some wintry precipitation, however we will not be seeing a hard freeze. Thank goodness.

With the low currently forecasted for 33 on Saturday night, looks like we'll have to cover the flowers we just planted this past weekend. And the herbs.

Might as well, cause plunging temperatures can harm some recently planted vegetation. There's already a Freeze Watch issued outside the North Texas region, and more likely it will affect us. Kinda odd for spring, ain't it? Don't panic, the weather will return to normal after Easter.

After a strong cold front swept through the North Texas area and wreaked havoc, everything is slowly going back to normal. We have some shots at thunderstorms with the best chances happening on Friday. Also, from what I saw on WFAA's morning weather reports, the cap may return to Texas. The only question is will it be strong enough to prevent storm development? Probably not, but we'll keep a close eye on it.

NOW we'll persue a rapid warm-up this week...and we'll get to see some sun. Not before getting another round of thunderstorms before lunchtime today. Then this Friday, another storm system moves in the area. These storms won't be severe except on Friday when the storms intensify along a dry line. Also, we're seeing a minor cooldown this weekend--yes, I said MINOR. In other words, it's not gonna be as bitterly cold as last weekend.

FINALLY, we got to see some sun after a couple of weeks of dreary weather. The sun peeked out around 2:30PM CDT and has rapidly warmed up since then. Of course, the calm weather won't last long as the cap currently in place will break late Thursday Night, fueling some thunderstorms, some of which could possibly turn severe, which is why the SPC has put all of North Texas under a slight risk of severe thunderstorms. A vigorous upper level disturbance will pass through the southern rockies, and enter the Northwestern portion of North Texas by early Friday Morning. The system will then spread throughout the entire North Texas region by Daybreak. Damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats of this severe weather activity.

I knew there was another cooler morning in the midst of the warm-up, and guess what, another cold weekend...only it's not gonna be as cold as the Easter Weekend. Before that, we're gonna see some severe thunderstorms on Friday with large hail and damaging winds. A few tornadoes are possible, especially along and east of the I-35 corridor, where a Moderate Risk of Severe Weather is in place.

Latest email from Jeff Lidner. I really hate Severe weather.

************************************

Threat for severe storms Friday night.

Discussion:

Powerful storm system plowing into the SW US will eject into the plains Friday. Ingredients will be coming together for a significant outbreak of severe weather including the threat of long tracked violent tornadoes over E TX into LA. Surface high will move east today allowing surface winds to swing around to the south and surge rich Gulf moisture back into the area. Pool of mid to upper 60 degree dewpoints poised over the Gulf will swing northward tonight into early Friday. Warm frontal boundary will develop and move northward over the region Friday placing the entire region in a warm and sultry warm sector. There is a small threat for a few storms to develop on the warm front Friday morning mainly N of HWY 105.

Main event looks to be Friday night and mainly over the N ½ of SE TX (I-10 northward). Low level jet will really crank out the wind on Friday with 850mb southerly flow of 50-60kts supporting ground winds of 20-40mph. Upper trough ejects into the plains with a 80-110kt jet core plowing into central TX Friday afternoon atop strong southerly flow. Warm front should reach the Red River valley by mid afternoon and backed easterly flow near this feature supports a significant tornado threat from NC TX to NC LA. Shear values are very impressive with this system and given the amount of instability that will be available a substantial outbreak of severe weather is likely. Main question over SE TX is capping intensity as very warm mid level temps. will be spreading NE from the coastal bend as 850mb winds veer to the SW bring hot air off the higher terrain of Mexico. Feel the cap will be too strong to break S of I-10. N of I-10 lift from the incoming frontal boundary should breach the inversion resulting in explosive development.

Expect intense convective development by mid afternoon along the central TX dry line from DFW to near Austin. Initial modes will be supercells with a high tornado risk where discrete cells are embedded within favorable backed low level flow and kinematic profiles. Over time the most significant tornado threat will shift toward NE TX along and just south of the warm front where surface flow will remained backed increasing the 0-1km shear values. A few violent tornado events will be possible in this region and SPC has already hoisted a Day 2 moderate risk outline (See below). Storms should consolidate into line segments and eventually a squall line late Friday evening as they approach SE TX from the NW. Expect severe line to move through CLL by midnight and reaching metro Houston 2-6am. Cap intensity will dictate how far S and W the line extends and it is very possible that Kingwood may get hammered and Sugar Land gets nothing. Point to be made that whatever develops and whatever breaks the cap will go severe quickly given the large amounts of shear and instability that will be present.

May see a few lingering showers early Saturday morning, however strong subsidence will set in quickly with cool dry advection overtaking the region by mid morning resulting in sunny skies and pleasant conditions.

Next storm system cranks up Monday and may approach the area late Tuesday…track of this system is a little further south and hence the threat of severe weather over SE TX may be greater.

At this point, we're seeing some spotty showers across the Northern 1/2 of North TX, bringing trace amounts of rain, but that's not our main event, it's gonna come around late afternoon and evening as a vigorous upper level system moves into the region along with a passing cold front and a dry line. A dangerous situation could be set up for the moderate risk area of thunderstorms (Including DFW, Waco, Temple, Corsicana, and Palestine), as some thunderstorms developing in those areas can turn into supercells, spawning tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds in excess of 70 MPH--especially along a passing warm front moving north through this area by Midday. In other words, BE EXTRA CAREFUL!

The weather has been crazy as heck in the North Texas area, especially the immediate DFW area where a tornado kept forming in Fort Worth and Haltom City, then was moving ENE to Irving, Downtown Dallas over to South of Garland, Rockwall, and north of Terrell. I was babysitting a 9-year-old kid named David at the time. When a Tornado Warning was issued for my area, we left the office and when hail started falling, I just grabbed David and high-tailed it to his home where we took cover. David managed to collect his first hail sample about the size of a marble. The possible tornado never hit the Las Colinas suburb of Irving so me and my family got lucky; I'm thinking it must've hit the heart of the city, however there have been no confirmed reports of a tornado. There has been one weather related death of an Officer in Irving where he was responding to a backup call, but he hydroplaned, causing him to collide with a pole. He was taken to Parkland (kind of a stupid move, considering Baylor Medical Center is just a few blocks away) where he was pronounced dead. Another weather-related death occured around Fort Worth where a man working at a lumber yard was trapped under a pile of wood, he later suffered a heart attack.

Today will be a nice, yet windy day across all of North Texas where a Wind Advisory is now in place until 6:00PM CDT this evening, however it could be extended through Midnight tonight.

Well, the wind advisory may have expired, but high winds are still in the forecast until Midnight. With winds dying down mixed with cold temperatures, clearing skies, and high moisture in the surface; a frost is possible before 4:00AM CDT, so to those who have outdoor vegetation should move them inside or cover them (preferably with a light blanket) immediately. Just when we thought we're done with Jack Frost, we're NOT!!!

After a cool weekend (weather wise), we're seeing another warming trend, but not before seeing another round of thunderstorms tomorrow. Will we see a repeat performance from Friday the 13th, hopefully not but we'll continue to keep an eye on this next system.

Today, we're gonna see some thinderstorms, some will be severe, but not as violent as Friday the 13th storms. Large hail, and damaging downburst winds will be the main threats with the upcoming storm activity. Otherwise, the rest of the week is NICE, so starting tomorrow, enjoy it!

At this point, we're seeing a line of showers and thunderstorms along a Gainesville, Denton, and Fort Worth line. That's not our major concern, however, it will give some lakes a head start in the filling process. Our major concern is the strong to severe thunderstorms that may develop later this afternoon.
