This is a horrible tragedy. My prayers are with all those who suffered.
As a result,
I feel less safe on my own college campus than I did before.

I am in total shock. We are all Hokies today. My condolences to all the families who lost loved ones.

How could Seung-Hui Cho kill 32 people in cold blood. Truly a cowardly act right there. Hell has a special place Seung-Hui Cho.

(It's scary how easy you can "stalk" people on the net sometimes.)

At any rate, after searching for our members, here's what I found:

As far as I can tell, Fodie77 logged into his YouTube page yesterday (not sure what time) but has not logged in since then -- http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Fodie77 -- and hasn't posted here since February and has no email link on his S2K profile.

Adelphi_sky hasn't posted here for a couple of years and there's no email addy link.

clfenwi's uncle is CTO at VT. No post since Sep '06, no email addy.

Hokie1 - no post since Jan '05 and no email addy (but most likely a Prince fan and a TiVo user)

dhweather - in Diamondhead last time we checked, even after Katrina.

There's a guy that graduated from Clearview High School in Mantua, NJ was shot in the face. I haven't heard anything more about his status. Shawn McQuay I think is his name. :(

Another thoughtful gesture -- In MLB, the Washington Nationals wore VT caps tonight for their game against the Atlanta Braves.

There was a threat of a "columbine-like" attack at Largo Middle School today.

Like all of you, I am saddened that the actions of one misguided person have changed the lives of so many. Us included.

I happened to be listening to the words of Governor Tim Kaine today as he spoke before those gathered in Blacksburg. I found his message uplifting at a time of pain; inspiring in this time of great loss. Not often does empathy seem so real nor compassion seem so genuine. At least it felt that way as I listened.

Before this week, I remember Blacksburg as home of another weather observer I once met at a New Hampshire meeting. I checked out his address, and he still lives at the same place just west of the VT campus.

Now, of course, most of us will remember Blacksburg for the duration, and most of us will remember it for a sad sad reason.

Out of the pain once again we will witness a resilience of spirit. There is some comfort in knowing that even the darkest times can produce new points of light.

We were at the University of Louisiana's baseball game tonight where the flags were flying at halfmast in rememberence of those killed. Before the national anthem the announcer requested a moment of silence for those senselessly murdered. Our national anthem was very moving tonight.

I can't put in to words how much the support of everyone here and around the country means to myself and the rest of us here in Blacksburg. To be contacted, through a YouTube account no less, by a fellow storm2k user (GalvestonDuck) is a testament to the extraordinary quality of this community. As for myself, I was outside Norris Hall when the shootings began, fortunate not to be inside it. A quick sprint across campus to get out of harm's way and I came through unharmed. However, I wish I could say the same for 32 others, many of whom we knew well. I'm sure the families of these victims would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as they will need all the support they can receive.

I would hope that, in the midst of wall-to-wall media coverage of the tragedy that occured, everyone would take a look at the community that I'm proud to be a part of. One of the greatest fears that all of us have, is that our school will forever be known as "that college where the worst shooting in US history occured." I may be biased, but I can think of no other university community that carries itself with such pride and spirit. We have never been more proud to call ourselves Hokies and hope that the world will come to see us as a college of unity, not one of catastrophe.

Lastly, as classes have been cancelled for the rest of the week, I'll be heading home to Winchester to spend time with family and friends. I don't consider myself a theologian, nor an articulate salesman of life lessons, but if there is anything I have learned over the past two days, it's that every moment in life is important and should be cherished by all, for one can never know when his/her number will come up. I can only hope that the 32 classmates of mine who were lost have moved on to a place of peace. As for all us Hokies, I pray that we can find our own.

With many thanks,
Jackson P. (Fodie77)

Thank God you're okay, Jackson, and thanks for checking in with us.

We have seen the Hokie spirit -- your school pride, your unity, and your strength -- so clearly these past couple of days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Burris Hall at VT evacuated due to an "intruder" sighting. Police are surrounding the building. This is next door to Norris Hall.
