I've been busy tonight but just a few quick observations:

* At 6:15 our power went off for a minute then flickered for a few more. I ran some errands and found the culprint. On Rayford Rd., a piece of a wooden sign was blown onto the power lines and caught fire! It then spread to the whole sign itself. This is about a 35ft. tall sign. They had the whole easytbound side blocked-off as they put the fire out.

* The storms up in DFW are dropping incredible rainfall totals, some place over 8" so far. I don't recall ever seeing such a training event in N. TX ever.

* The cell that was near Eagle Pass produced a tornado with injuries in Loma Linda (Maverick County). Incredibly it STILL has a Tornado Warning as it approaches I-35

* It sure is windy!!

* A long night ahead for sure as the MCS develops to our west and moves into SE TX overnight with damaging winds and flash flooding

If I were y'all, I'd check in a little early tonight. Thunder and lightning flashes always wake me up and send me to the computer to see what's going on. Of course I'll probably be up anyways waiting for the leading edge to hit us with NOAA radio in one hand and my flashlight in the other. :slime:

winds must be gusting to a good 40mph or so up here in NW Harris too. I am watching the gusts put the pines into a decent bend and a few lawn chairs and some garbage is blowing around outside. Pretty crazy considering I did not expect winds like this.

I just witnessed 2 transformer pops outside! This is pretty intense. Despite the airport reports from 30 mins ago..the winds have to be gusting well over 40mph at times! Why no wind advisory for Houston???

After I read that about the tides being high, I took a trip down to the marina and sure enough the ramp that you normaly walk down from the dock is level. when I got back I parked the car in the back yard (we have a alley) if it rains super hard here the street can flood. Better safe than sorry.

I am wondering the same tonight. We are gusting to 40 mph here in Spring Branch and I also know that at least some businesses in Tomball are without power, presumably from wind knocking limbs onto lines or similar.

My aunt who lives in Brownwood (see map below) called my mom earlier. They had huge amounts of about quarter size hail. She said that it was like it was pouring down rain, but it was hail, and it covered the yard, making the yard look white. After it had let up and she went outside, she said there were also very large chunks of ice scattered about within the hail. What is that? Just isolated bigger chunks of hail? The chunks were much bigger than the rest of the hail.

She went outside and heard the dreaded train roaring sound while on the phone with my mom, who tried to get her to go into her basement. She was telling my mom, "Can you hear it? It's really loud." My mom was like, "That's because it's close!" and told her to get in the basement now! My aunt knows what a tornado sounds like so I don't know what was up with that. Anyway, they hung up and she talked to her a bit later and everything was ok. At first, my mom couldn't get an answer and was worried, but I think she was just outside checking things out or something. She did get in the basement. I don't know if one touched ground in the area, but they were in a tornado warning.

I haven't had a chance to really look at much for our area, but it looks like the weather is going to deteriorate later. Image

Pressure gradient can easily create TD type conditions...

As Sam noted, the tides are running high. Winds down this way on the coast are quite strong as well.

what I think has been a joke so far is this forecast...

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1am. Some of the storms could be severe, with heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

15mph? lol. They don't even mention gusts or anything.

Latest IAH report confirms my estimates of gusts over 40mph...SE 32 G 41 MPH

This is similar to what we would be seeing if there was a weak tropical storm moving overhead.
