How did you deal with the last day of high school?

the last day is coming up just too fast and a whole year too early. I am leaving HS with my senior class a whole year early with a couple of friends from my junior class (i am a junior) I glad that I am going to college early, but i am extremely sad that I have to leave. I will miss everyone. I will see a lot of people, but it wont be the same. How did you deal?

I was very glad to be finished with high school. Leaving friends behind was the worst part of it. The main thing you need to do, or at least try your best, is to keep in touch with them. I lost touch with alot of my old high school friends and I deeply regret it. I know alot of people move on with their lives, whether it be going away to college or just moving away to start a family or something, but keeping touch with them is definetly something you need to do. Everyone comes back home every now and then to see family and friends. Once you get into college, you'll make new friends and you'll be heavily involved with your school work. That will take away some of the "pain" off your mind. You just have to adjust to all the changes. It will be kinda rough at first but you'll deal with it ok. Everyone has to do it!

I dug a hole in the back yard and filled it with everything I had from twelve years of school and set fire to it and burned it and buried it. The only mementos were those my mother had in scrapbooks. Let us just say that I love to learn, was driven to get good grades (myself not my parents) and therefore did not know the meaning of fun. By the seventh grade, I had a bleeding ulcer. I hated school (often bored) and would have done better in a different educational environment.

Gosh fact, it's been so long since I graduated High School I don't remember how I felt lol But I will tell you one thing My son is 20 now and graduated a couple of years ago, there is so much more to come for you. College is a wonderful experience and the world is waiting for you.....Your true friends will always be there and you'll make so many more. Good Luck to you and have fun!!!!!!

I was excited about graduation, having a full time job during the summer and ALL of those parties at different friends homes. I was looking forward to college and I was attending it with my high school sweetheart. It was a time where I was feeling hopeful and excited about what my new chapter in life would bring.

It was sad but it was also a time that I felt proud of myself.

4 of my closest friends and I loaded up my pontiac firebird and headed out for a week of fun in Panama CIty Beach. We stayed in a gulf condo until graduation day and then we drove back just in time to make the ceremony. It was absolutely the best week of my life. It was sad to leave high school, I enjoyed my experience and would do it again simply because of the friends I had. I still keep in touch with my closest friends and got to see many others at my 10 year reunion. I say enjoy you college experience and cherish the memories of high school!! The pain will subside I can guarantee you that!

Walked out the door as quick as possible. Have never been back since that fateful May day in 1974. Katrina damaged the school and I doubt it will be rebuilt. I think when the wrecking ball is called in I'll drive back to NO and enjoy the day.....MGC

Yeah, that is pretty much how I did things, minus the ulcer ( I hope!) and burning stuff. I felt like I was just leaving my teachers and the building behind since I was a study-holic. This continues to this day as I am college.

By the last day of school I'd accepted the fact that it was time to move on. I said my goodbyes and walked out the door.

Of course, graduation was the Saturday after that, and that's when the more emotional goodbyes were.

I was glad to be rid of high shool. Aside from my friends, I did not look back. I haven't attended any reunions (and this year is the 20th!!!!), simply because I don't care to see many of those people. Its a past life for me. Finis. Over.

Sounds like many of you did not have good experiances in HS. I have had a very good experiance going through HS. I am going to do everything I can to KIT will everyone at Dixie (my HS) It will be one of the hardest days of my life.

I shed some tears when I graduated, I'll own that. I'm happy you had good experiences...thats very important. Everyone's experience will differ on occasion. My HS was too much of a social-testing laboratory in which you had to fit some "mode" in order to survive, let alone thrive. Everybody knows how it is....there are social classes in high school just like everyplace else. I hated it, even though I was a member of the "smart girl/geek" set. We got along fine, especially in the junior and senior year....but I saw that social system eat kids and spit them out. Socially speaking, there was too much "law of the jungle" and not enough emphasis on education and achievement.

That's not to say that there aren't great schools out there, or that people haven't had fantastic experiences in HS. I think it depends on a lot of factors. Plus, any time you end one phase of your life and begin another...its going to be bittersweet. Yah, it will be difficult, but I have a feeling you are going to build on your accomplishments in your collegiate career.

I am one of those Smart people (top 3%,) but I also fit in with people of my kind. I get along with most people. ITs all about where you put yourself in the school. I took all the social classes i could take, while being in strong academic classes.

Well, my husband is a college professor and there is no summer for him. His students work in the lab all summer...

I was sad as I realized that I would not see my "school friends" everyday as I had for 12 years. My school was also one of those "clicks" but I wasn't in one click, I flittered from one to the other, had friends in all of them and was accepted by all. I never looked down on anyone and never let anyone look down on me as I always felt that I was as good as anybody else. My family's income in no way reached what the other people in my schools parents did but I didn't worry about it. I was my own person and since it was 1973 everybody was "Love" and "Peace" except for the "elite", I didn't like them anyway could have cared less. But you know the first 3 reunions, I was the "main person" in getting these together, having spent my own money on a lot of things and never being repaid. That was the 10, 15 and 20. Since then we haven't had another one. I will say that I was not an elected officer in my class who is supposed to be in charge of those things but just a little fly on the wall. So I don't know if we will ever have another one or not. It's sad. We have many attorneys, NFL players, "movie star moguels" and business owners but they will do nothing ... soo....

Remember your days, keep them close to your heart and don't burn bridges whenever you leave somewhere...you never know when you may have to cross back over that one bridge.

Oh yea, Graduation night was the big thing for us we went to Biloxi, had a hotel booked in my name no less, and partied all night. I woke up and there were 18 people in our suite....more than half I didn't know. It was a night I will never forget. The Hotel is gone as well as the Fiesta at the Fiesta where we partied, but still when I go past that place on the beach it brings back memories.
