I might of gotten an inch here at the house when the leading line pushed through earliar this morning. Yep, just checked the rain gauge and just at an inch. Now it's just raining softly. No big deal at all.

It hit our house fast & furiously at 4AM with some incredible rainfall rates and some severe gusts. Driving down Riley Fuzzel this morning (near Old Town Spring), I saw a downed tree, several large branches down, and a fence was blown over.

I saw some downed limbs in Humble too. The mass of rain and thunder came in about 4:45 am this morning. Another thing. I was quite suprised by the winds last night around 10 pm. Goodness. Sustained winds around 30 mph with gusts near 41.

wow! The winds last night were even more incredible than I thought. Check out what IAH recorded...

Top sustained = 39mph
Top gust = 45mph
(according to the daily summary for yesterday)

The damage from these speeds was evident too. Around town I heard many stories of power outages, I saw quite a few downed (typically small) tree limbs, and there were some signs and loose debris blown around.

I'm hoping the line to our west can hold together enough to give us a good soaking this evening, we could use it. It's looking pretty good right now: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 1&loop=yes

Storm damage part II:

Ok, so this morning I drove down Riley Fuzzel again and I must say it was MUCH worse than what I thought I saw yesterday (couldn't see much in the rain yesterday).

Anyway, between Spring Creek and the entrance to Spring Trails, it's a real mess. There are numerous large trees down and branches covering the ground. Normally I would shrug this off as standard straight-line winds, but the thing that's so interesting is that it seems to be very isolated in a small 1/2 - 1 mile long path. As soon as you cross Spring Creek, the damage ceases. Not even a single branch or leaf in the yards. I really think this may have been a weak F0 aloft tornado that clipped the treetops. If anyone knows where Heidelberg Farms is located, that is "ground zero". If fact, they had to chainsaw a large tree that was completely blocking the entrance. It looks like a war zone compared to the surrounding area. I've seen straight-line winds be pretty "isolated" before, but this rather unusual - I think the NWS should look into it.

We definately received a good soaking last night. The storms trained over my area for a few hours and we picked up 2.30" officially but I'd say well over 3" at my house. Radar estimates some areas just south of here received 7-8" of rain. Looks like we'll be dry for at least the next week so this rain was beneficial and brings us to around average for the year now.

Possible microburst? Or was it all in a narrow path with the normal turning of the trees/limbs etc. one would see from a tornado?

Past that the weather is GEORGEOUS!!!!!!SO WHY AM I SITTING IN HERE!!!!aaarrrggghhhh!!!!!

Maybe so, but I didn't think conditions were favorable for microbursts.

I can't really tell if they are in a rotated pattern from the street, but it does seem to be in a narrow path across 1/2 mile or so, then it just stops. Just down the road the "New Home" directional signs aren't even bent over, and usually those are the first to go in a wind situation. Weird stuff...

I remember the first time I saw an honest-to-God microburst from enough of a distance to identify it for what it was. Dave and I were returning from Galveston on I-45 northbound - probably about 10 to 15 miles from downtown Houston. Off to the NW of downtown Houston, we watched a typical summer storm develop. The cumulus clouds turned black, and the rain curtain came straight down. It caught our attention because it was in the area we were headed. All at once, that nice straight curtain of rain bowed out to the left as if a gigantic blower hit it. The clouds just... collapsed (for lack of a better word) and the rain was blown for miles away from its source in huge swirls. Took about 5 minutes, and it was all gone as if it had never been there. Don't remember hearing if there was damage or not, but that had to be one big-arse downburst.

What a beautiful day it was today. A high of 88 and not a cloud in the sky. The downside of it....susre makes sitting in the grandstand of the university baseball park hot. There was no breeze and our seats just miss the shade of the overhang so the sun was beating down on us. We only lasted an hour after sweating profusely. You can only afford so many $3 bottles of water. Came home and slept for 3 hours. The sun just wiped me out.
