I know this was a joke, but whether you enable GPS on your phone or not, the authorities have the means to locate it via GPS. Your phone's GPS chip is always on, ostensibly to help locate you in the event you call 911 and can't give a precise location.

actually, you can turn the GPS on some phones off. I disabled mine....
