Dell

Ok, gotta give them some credit where it's due. My Dell Dimension desktop is 2 years and 3 months old. I have had a few problems, but when I've called Dell, the guy was out within a day or two, and most of the problems were actually the same problem... a noisy fan. Because they tried to diagnose the problem over the phone and then send the guy out, I ended up getting all of my fans replaced over a few months, as well as a new motherboard somewhere along the way. The last few days, my flat screen monitor started acting up. It would just go off and I could turn it back on, and it would go off again within 1 - 3 seconds. Rinse, repeat. Well, you can't use a computer like that.
Short on time yesterday afternoon, I knew I didn't have long to call them and get them to send someone out before I had to be somewhere else. I called and 18 hours later, there's a brand new monitor on my doorstep.

I'm beginning to wonder now if I should have recently bought Toshiba laptops. Image I have had excellent service with Dell.

you should Always go with Dell :-) Does the new monitor work with the computer?? What it sounds like you were describing was a Video card issue and not a Monitor problem. Was the power light staying on just going orange/amber instead of the normal Green? If thats the case it is video card.. but if the power light goes completely off then yes.. Monitor issue

The light was staying green, but you couldn't see anything. I had to turn the monitor off, then back on. It would work for a few seconds, then go black.... but the light stayed green. I'm on my laptop now, but the new monitor is hooked up and working fine. :)


Yeah, I probably should have went with Dell, but Toshiba had excellent scores with Consumer Reports as well. Hey, I showed you my laptop before I bought it and you thought it looked good. You should have spoken up then! lol

You have a good laptop no doubt.. I have never kept it a secret that Dell is always first choice though :-)

I had had the same exact problem with my monitor awhile back but it was 4 years old. I went out and bought another one.

When I bought my Dell, one of the promotions was a 4 year warranty for the price of 2 years, or something like that, so I did it. I'm covered until January '09. It's definitely been worth it so far!

I learned the hardway, always go Dell, even having to talk to the folks in India that don't know communication English, just text book English...geeze don't get me started.

My monitor has gone out twice and both times they have sent me a new one with 24 hours. It would just die, dead, it did. No power. I switched power cords, etc..nothing...the last one that sent was refurbished because they don't make this product anymore but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I have a Compaq now and it is 4 years old. John has had a Dell laptop and my sis always buys a Dell. Next time I will get a Dell. My sis got a wonderful buy on it over the internet at their site.

I have a 3-plus year old Dell that has hardly been used. First, the power supply went south. I got it fixed after sitting around after a couple of months. That was in early 2005. Later that year, the video card started acting up. Dell refused to do anything about it. My computer has sat unused because I think that Dell should have honored my warranty. I may go get a card myself for it eventually.

I was looking on the net this morning for good deals on a Dell Desktop. Where is a good place to buy one and get a good deal. I hate to buy the whole package because John just bought me a flat screen monitor. I just need the other Dell items.

I am on a Dell notebook right now. I love it. My brother bought an HP after I told him to get a Dell and hes had constant problems with it. The next laptop I get will be a Macbook though. I want to do some music recording with it and macs have some of the best software for that. But you can't go wrong with a Dell!

Dell are pretty good with being able to customise your PC. That said I expect it is cheaper to add RAM in yourself than get them to do it, same with second hard drives etc. This Dell is nearing four years old and is working well, all I've done is add a second hard drive which takes all of 2 minutes. I've added more RAM, various PCI cards and so on to other PCs and that is all easy to do as well. I may well build my own PC next time as it will be a fair bit cheaper.
