Your Cause, Your Passion

#1 Postby Janice » Fri May 11, 2007 7:49 am

Do you have one cause or passion you really fight for or do your best to help in the situation.

Living in Puerto Rico and not speaking Spanish well enough to carry on serious conversations, I put my cause in rescuing kittens who come into our yard. We have rescued tons of them. We feed them, most stay outside, and then they are on their own. I will not turn a cat away. 50% of them leave, but I feel I have done my part in helping them.
I cannot stand to see starving animals on the street or animals who have been mistreated. I do not go out seeking them, but if they come in my yard, I will help them.

Yes, we have given several kittens away and our vet lets us post pictures in his clinic. But with the big population of cats, it is hard sometimes. John threatens his students to take one if they want to get their Phd... :grr:

I recently took in a BEAUTIFUL Maine Coon that would have starved to death within a week if I had not gotten my hands on him. The owners? Well, thats another story. $140.00 in vet bills later.....you know the story!!! I am a SUCKER!!!!

We have spent a fortune on these cats. We have had every female fixed. And the vet bills and food too. But, we have no children and I think it is our responsibility to help these little fellows.

Passionate about bearded dragon rescues here, help out the best that I can but once we get our home I will be starting a full-blown rescue, people should not buy reptiles without knowing how to care for them, and they should not buy them from pet stores, they have no clue...I get so Po'ed when I go to a pet store and see them have them on calci-sand, that stuff is not digestible, it turns into cement in their gut, impact them and kill them :grr: Walnut shells too :grr:

I better stop, I'm starting to get passionate here :)

Baby rescue. I do what I can to share with others that abortion is indeed killing a baby... a human being. There are people out there who want women to think the baby is nothing but a blob of tissue. That ticks me off to no end. I'd save every innocent child's life if I could. This is such a tragic issue... we can stop it, but we don't. Our leaders say it's ok and give the perception that human life is meaningless. :(

Doing what I'm doing now...working in law enforcement and criminal investigations! I am VERY passionate about serving justice on the wrong doers of this world, the child molesters, the WIFE beaters, the womanizing men of this world, THAT'S my passion! I went back to school at the age of 44 yrs. old to earn my degree in criminal justice because I was SICK and tired of seeing children and women being abused!

AZ, did I ever tell you I worked four years in a juvenile detention center in Iowa? We housed the worse kids in the states, had 10 cells, double bunks. All murder, etc. Four years was enough for me. I left and went to the Polk County Sheriff dept and went thru the six week course at Camp Dodge to start with a career in the sheriffs office. I started out working in intake working in the booking department. I hated it so much, I left. It is the first time I ever quit a job. I couldn't stand how the officers treated the people they picked up and brought in. I was a social worker for 25 years and worked for the country. I moved to different department just to get an idea how all the operations worked. Meyer Hall, the juvie was the worse. I saw and heard everything from kids cutting themselves up in their rooms to me be called names only you have heard. Crips, Bloods, Black Gangster Deciples, ViceLords... we had them all and all housed together.

Environmental issues are our passion. We recently worked with the Quivira Coalition to plant over 200 trees in a local canyon area for native plant restoration. Also, we've sponsored a wolf at a preserve in Colorado. I love wolves. I also do my bit for animal rescue. Every animal I've owned has been a rescued dog.

I was also an activist for anti-semitic issues but havent found a venue for that here yet. I've been a mentor for high school girls to pursue non-traditional career paths.

As a human being, my resources are finite. Under those circumstances, I'd have to say that feminist issues are my passion.

Thank you!

Janice, no, you didn't mention that! There are times where the offender deserves that kind of treatment IMHO! We've had several unruly juvys in here, we treat them with honor and respect but when they reach that certain point, we walk away and let them have a temper tantrum...when it's over, we come back in with honor and respect again.

The only hard part for me was seeing these young kids tried as adults for some of their crimes. On visitation day, I could see they had no parential guidance. They get in the wrong crowds and suddenly their lives are over. We had some under 18 who got life for murder. No chance to get their lives on tract.

Ya know...I used to blame the parents for a lot of stuff but after my criminal profiling classes I learned different! Some of us (not here mind you LOL!) are born "criminal"..no amount of parenting, learning, discipline will correct 'em!

Yes, you see that in families where the parents were good parents. Look at Jeffrey Dahner (sp). Really bad kids come out of good homes.

I was basically referring to the kids who would demand that their parents buy $100 tennis shoes and bring them in to wear. And, the parents would do it. So many kids had control over their parents.

My passion is education. I've been a teacher for 35 years and have taught all levels [preschool through college]. I currently have the best job in the world: helping people reach their heart's desire of becoming educators. My current position as head of the Institute of Teacher Education at Palm Beach Community College involves several state-approved programs for paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, and professionally certified teachers. In the third- mentioned program (an alternative certification program for adults with non-education degrees who want to transition from a current career to teaching), I teach a course in instructional strategies, as well.

I'm very vocal in my support of and vision for public education in our country. I'm not naive about the problems in our state educational systems, but I'm not ready to give up on public education, either. The public school systems reflect local American society and culture, and vice versa. In return for the privilege of citizenship, all facets of American society have the responsibility to cooperate in prioritizing the value of education. Education is the key to America's strength.

Education, especiallly in Post-Katrina New Orleans, although it's been a passion for years before the Badass mean lady Katrina! I'll be happy to go into it more at another time, but anyone else who's interested, please check out our website:

and feel free to ask any questions.
