That is great, Thanks...
My mother didn't teach me anything. My home with her was very disfunctional. I spent the first half of my life with my father in California, then went to live with my mother starting with junior high. Court orders, not my choice.
My mother was into herself and had no time to share with my sister or me. She did not teach us anything, cooking, cleaning, love..... My sis and I endured and got out when we were 18. I went back to my dads for a couple years.
We turned out ok, my sis and I pledged we would be nothing like our mother. Till the day she died, she could not ever put anyone first. She always let us know she came before her husband, children and grandchildren. She died a lonely, bitter woman. You can choose our spouses, but you cannot choose our parents. I have no regrets about my feelings towards her.

Very sorry to hear that Janice. I LIVE for my little one....she is the reason I am still sane.
My mother taught me SO very many things I cant count them all and I am blessed to have her. My brother and I are adopted, my mom couldnt have children. What I can attest to for sure is she taught me true love and compassion! My heart came from her regardles of her not giving birth to me. She is my mother in every aspect!!!

Those are terrific. There are a couple of other things mom taught me:
Contribute quietly. If you have to brag about your contributions to the world, it sort of undoes it a bit.
Dont advocate from your kitchen table. No one can hear you there. Get out and do something about it!
And this from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
To laugh often and much, to win respect of intelligent people and affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; the leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child. a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
Since she passed away, I have made this my life creed. My brother and I printed it with my mom's obituary and picture on the other side and laminated it. we carry it in our wallets.

Then you did indeed learn something very valuable from her....

You know, they say children often emmulate what they know. I ALSO believe though that children live to NOT emmulate what they know as well. There are some traits of my father's (a wonderful but harsh country boy) that I refuse to instill in my daughter.
