seen this tonite. link I really think we are going to get a real early start this year. also I live in west palm beach about 18 miles inland. in a CBS block house built in 1994. what is the strongest storm I could weather. yes I do have shutters. I just don't want to evac if I don't need to. when Wilma hit my neighbor left. while is was gone his house was broken into.

You would be fine.... any winds that would potentially damage the frame of your home would not make it 18 miles inland.... hell I think I'm safe enough 3 miles inland

The storms are fizzling once they head out to sea.
Wait a month or two before ever looking at the sat link again.

FYI.....during Katrina our home in Hattiesburg.....60 miles from the gulf, suffered signifcant wind damage. My daughter was trapped in the home from tree fall, power poles and other debris transported by wind. Our home in Crystal Springs....85 NM from Ponchartrain......took a 5 hour windstorm with tree fall and airborne debris damage.

You might consider rethinking your personal safety that close to the water. When your running for your life your home means nothing.

Don't even bother thinking about the Cape Verde train before August.

FYI...Charlotte, NC has received strong tropical storm force winds with gusts easily into hurricane force due to a landfalling tropical system

You will not be asked to evacuate if your 18 miles inland, in a well built protected structure, flooding is not a concern, and you don't have special needs. If you don't fall into one of those situations and choose to evacuate you should do it early so your not in the way of those who need to evacuate.

Heh, no joke.

Homestead FL is 7-10 miles from the coast, and lets see what Andrew did to houses that far inland....

Mostly everything is gone.

All houses have lost structural frames

If u were inside this house, u might not have survived. And this is a well constructed building.

Again, everything is blown down.

If its anything above a 3 buddy, id evacuate if I were u.

I lost my home and Rita and lets just say that you are closer than I am. AND YES...........IT WAS A MANDATORY EVACUATION! It wasn't from flooding but multiple tornadoes that accompany these hurricanes combined with devastating wind sometimes makes you wonder which is worse..........coastal water or inland tornadoes and wind. Neither my friend. Seek shelter much farther away (not east of an approaching storm) and as soon as possible.
