Double eyewalls with Katrina and Ivan

so dr blackwell at the university of south alabama ,actually my old advisor did some research that showed Ivan and Katrina were so destructive because of a double eyewall that prolonged the events...here is the link of the story...

I met with Dr. Bill last Friday to go over some research he and Dr. Blackwell have been working on. He discussed some of the eyewall replacement and collapsing cores research they are working on. Absolutely fascinating. He showed me a dopplar image of a collapsing core slammin you P'cola folks right at Ivan landfall.

Gilbert had a double eyewall when he slammed Cozumel in September 1988.

I remember reading something about ir or a documentary or something can't remember which :oops:

ya...I think more research needs to be done about the collapsing cores and what effect they have on an area...interesting stuff indeed

On the channel three news tonight... Hurricane Opal was also mentioned as a possibility as well as others that were not named.

I remember Gilbert causing a scare for Texas. The biggest before Rita. Gilbert made landfall on Yucatan with 165 mph winds and 900 millibars.
