Driving habits changed yet?

With gas at an ALL time record high have you changed your driving habits?

We have! We are combining trips now, not so many trips to town now...but vacation plans? HECK NO!! We work too hard, too many hours, put up with too much BS to deny ourselves some R&R!

Sadly, there are some things that we cant cut back on. We both work on a Government base however we work at different areas and different hours. I would like to get with some people and car pool but I have a small child and need to be able to leave if she is ill or if something happens. As for other things, such as mini vacations and such, it's really hard to find the money when it is all going in our tanks. I can tell you however, that I watch the gas gauge VERY closely now. It looks like it is going to get worse too. I DREAD the thought of a hurricane and having to use the Generator.

Getting to and from work is almost 80 miles. No one lives up here that I could carpool with ----- so I'm stuck with big gas bills. Vacation?????? My mini vacations will be trips to my kids houses and a green thumbie reunion in Philadelphia. That's it.

I dont drive much as it is. If there are any trips it would be to orlando once or twice. But that is it. No change in plans here.

No. I've been combining trips and doing without something that would mean an extra trip out for a good while. I've also started telling customers who think i need to make a trip out to their business when i really don't need to that it will be $65 for me to go out there. It's amazing how many can now tell me the width of their door so i can put vinyl lettering on it!!!!!

we both work on the base here, fortunately in the same building, so we drive in together. we lived almost 30 miles from town but the benefits outweigh the minor impact to our pocketbook.

No, I haven't changed my driving habits. Instead I traded in my old 97 Cutlass for a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid last Christmas....without a doubt it is the best investment I have ever made! 40 miles to the gallon...450+ miles on a $35 tank even today. I actually find myself driving even more than I used to just because it feels so good to drive so cheap. I spend about as much money on gas now as I did on the 20mpg Cutlass a few years ago...and I deliver pizza for a living.

I love it when I give someone a ride someplace and they give me some cash to cover the costs, like say $10...because on $10 I could drive from here to Shreveport.

No, we haven't changed our personal driving habits. But for our business we have tried to combined trips and put more crews together since we travel all over the state of FL.

I don't drive much as it is, probably a full tank of gas every two weeks so it hasn't impacted me quite as much as others. I drive a '05 Impala that gets between 26-30 mpg which is rather good. My husband on the other hand drives a one ton diesel and travels cross country for work.

Vacation? Ironically, we're taking a road trip through the NW this summer. We plan on spending about $1K + on fuel alone in his truck.

I try to keep my gasoline usage under 15 gallons a month-which means combining shopping trips and cutting out storm chasing. Also no trips to Tucson where my son lives and when he comes here Saturday, I will tell him to cut his trips here out for the duration. All thanks and praise to the Oil Companies and their fat slob CEO's.

Not really; I live in a small town and when it is nice out we often walk or ride bike to the store, unless I need to get more than I can carry that way. Pretty much the only out-of-town driving I do on a regular basis is taking my kids to meet their dad for visitation, and there are no options for that!

I don't recall hearing you speaking like that before, not that I don't agree with you though!

I ride 100 miles round trip a day. Not many from the casino work up this way, or if they did, they have different hours as well. There is also a train that goes into Atlantic City, but by the time I drive there, pay, etc., the trip will already be longer than the 1 hour it is and I'll probably pay the same for the cost of a ticket as I would for the gas.

I do combine trips - when I go to shop, I'll hit several different stores in one trip and make alot of stops on the way home from work.

With the warmer weather I'll be biking to work whenever the weather, schedule, and other committments allow. Otherwise I'll be taking the bus to work as much as possible. When everything works out, I only drive to work every other friday (payday) because I have a lot of errands on those days. The higher gas prices only mean that I save more money on alternate transportation.

Driving to work - $6/day
Riding the bus - $2/day
Biking to work- Priceless!
