Weed Killers
Moderator: S2k Moderators
Good question. I asked this question elsewhere last year and was told white vinegar in a spray bottle works great. But it didn't do squat on my weeds. I don't want to apply weed killer or roundup in the areas where my dog plays. Roundup I heard can cause cancer in pets. Now I have heard you can apply boiling water to weeds and that does the trick. There are fancy and I'm sure expensive hose attachments/heaters for this but that's way too complicated for me. I just pull the weeds where my dog roams. I'll be interested to see if there are really good weed killers that are kind to other plants you want to keep and animals.

trimec
look for a bottle called trimec if you want selective control of broadleaf weeds in the lawn. this product is safe for use on grasses, such as bluegrass, fescue and rye. check the lable for warm season grasses as there might be a different rate of mixture for the different grasses, and might be a few that the product should not be used on.
trimec is made by a kansas city company called PBI Gordon, and is sold under the label of ACME. i know, we are all thinking coyote and roadrunner... but seriously, this is a good product that is safe and easy to use in lawns. extremely low burn potential when used as directed.
