Thanks KD. I don't need (or understand!) the full technical aspects, but do understand your explanation. That's exactly the answer I needed. :-D

As easily as my street floods, I am NOT getting a warm fuzzy looking at that loop srain. Not at all... The 'blob' that appears on the last couple of frames SW of Houston is what I'm looking at. Just a bit more eastern movement and I'm gonna have to put on my flood pants.

Pissing down here under the Bear Creek Dome. Not much electrical activity, but the rain is coming down in wind-blown buckets.

FLOOD ADVISORY...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
134 PM CDT SAT MAY 26 2007

TXC201-339-262130-
134 PM CDT SAT MAY 26 2007

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LEAGUE CITY HAS ISSUED AN

* URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
HARRIS COUNTY...
MONTGOMERY COUNTY...

* UNTIL 430 PM CDT

* AT 134 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAIN OVER HARRIS AND MONTGOMERY
COUNTIES. RADAR AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT RAINFALL
RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES AN HOUR ARE OCCURRING.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL MAY CAUSE FLOODING OF LAND
ADJACENT TO CREEKS AND BAYOUS...DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.
ADDITIONALLY...FLOODING MAY OCCUR ON...STREETS...FRONTAGE ROADS...AND
HIGHWAY UNDERPASSES. AVOID LOCATIONS WHERE WATER COVERS THE GROUND!

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

PLEASE REPORT FLOODING TO THE COUNTY SHERIFF...LOCAL POLICE...OR
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY. THEY WILL RELAY YOUR REPORT TO THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

I now have 1.55" of rain recorded, and more is yet to come! I could easily end up topping 2-3" today if this continues.

Current rain total = 2.15"

Now, 6 minutes later...2.50" inches!

(0.35" in just 6 minutes! )

Flood watch just issued through Sunday! Up to 3-5" of additional rainfall may fall in some areas over the next 24-36 hours according to the NWS. Beyond Sunday, more watches look likely too.

311 PM CDT SAT MAY 26 2007

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS...INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING COUNTIES...AUSTIN...BRAZOS...BURLESON...COLORADO...
FORT BEND...GRIMES...HARRIS...HOUSTON...JACKSON...MADISON...
MATAGORDA...MONTGOMERY...WALKER...WALLER...WASHINGTON AND
WHARTON.

* THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING

* A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES WILL COMBINE WITH A MOIST
AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS TO PRODUCE ADDITIONAL ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE WATCH AREA TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.
ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED BY
SUNDAY EVENING...WITH ISOLATED TOTALS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES POSSIBLE.THIS
ADDITIONAL RAIN FALLING ON ALREADY SATURATED GROUND WILL CREATE
THE POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING.

* A FLOOD WATCH MEANS RAPIDLY RISING WATER OR FLOODING IS POSSIBLE
WITHIN THE WATCH AREA. IF YOU ARE IN THE WATCH AREA...CHECK
PREPAREDNESS REQUIREMENTS...KEEP INFORMED...AND BE READY FOR
QUICK ACTION IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR IF A WARNING IS ISSUED.
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...ABANDON IT AND SEEK
HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. RAPIDLY RISING WATER MAY ENGULF YOUR
VEHICLE AND ITS OCCUPANTS AND SWEEP THEM AWAY. MOVE TO HIGHER
GROUND.

I'm up to at least 2.43"(doesn't always read right) here. We were out in far NW Harris County(Fiarfiled) when it started and came back in via Fry Road, FM 529, Eldridge and Clay and went through some absolutely torrential downpours(I estimate up to 3"/hr rates). Reports of 4"+ in the Copperfield, Bear Creek areas would not be a surprise.

looks like the Gulf Freeway Corridor and the South Belt areas are getting in on the action now... heavy developing rain poised to hit affect the southern portions of Harris County
