Smoke and Haze from GA Wildfire
I was really shocked on Wednesday when people began mentioning that haze from the wildfires in Georgia were making it all the way up into NE MS and middle TN.. I didn't notice it around the Memphis area until Thursday, and it's not constant but every few hours or so the visibility will drop to a few miles. It's pretty weird, IMO, to think that the smoke from down there is making it all the way up here.

I wonder if all this smoke being released day after day has any effect on the global atmosphere? Could it possibly impact the short-term climate? I know that sometimes the big volcanoes can do this, but will all these constant fires have a similar effect? That would be something interesting to hear about.

We visited my sister in Auburn (AL) over the weekend and the smoke was quite thick Saturday morning. The smoky smell was so strong, we thought there was a fire very close-by. It turns out it was the smoke from the GA/FL wildfires. Fortunately, the smoke and smell abated by the afternoon so we could have our family get-together on the back porch. As we drove home on I-65 yesterday afternoon, the smoke was with us most of the way South. I guess it finally cleared around the Escambia County/Baldwin County line. We really need a good rain to clear this stuff out.
